Hypothyroidism

Two weeks ago I was diagnosed with this condition. Most of my family on my mom's side has this condition. Ok my question is, why does one get this condition and could it of been prevented?

i have thyroid disorder too. my mom's family has it also,like yours. it has to be inheirited,from what i can see. i've noticed anyone in my family who has it also has anemia-i don't know if there's a connection with that or not.
