airlines the cause of global warming

there is constant stuff in the news of how they are going to make flying more expensive and fine airlines for polluting too much. Why are they only aiming this new green streak at the airlines? They only contibute a tiny amount of the CO2 released every year. Should governments not really be looking at new ways to produce elctricity and power our cars as these are the two main causes of pollution.
Are the airlines just being used as a scapegoat (if they blame it all on them and make it look like their doing something to stop the airlines then the oil companies will be happy and the government will still look good)

I think the government tries to find ways out of things that really matter to cut costs and charge more money so they can have more parties on things that do not matter as much. OK, maybe that is harsh of me. I apologize.
But I think the government is not doing what they can by stopping the real pollution problems because those companies are the money makers. The more they make, the more the government gets from them paying their taxes and other fees. So, I guess they want to attack the airplanes because they feel that the prices are not high enough yet. Not as if I am jumping on a plane to go anywhere I want because it is already way over priced.
But did you know that there is an invention for a engine that runs on water?
The government has already gotten a hold of the inventor and is working with that person on getting it into production. Yeah, right! We probably will not see it hit the market for another 10 years. One would think that something like this the government would get their heels a kicking to move it faster. But if they did that...then what of the gas and oil companies? If one could by a conversion kit to put on their existing car and even use rain water to power it...why be in a hurry for the mass population? They are going to want full control and use it to their advantage first.
OK, I digress. But I agree that the government is blowing smoke and avoiding the real issues on the pollution and greenhouse effect.

There have been many inventions regarding alternative energies to move cars but only a few are valid and economically sustainable. Would you buy a 20000$ car with a max speed of 30 mph that requires refuel every 120 miles and can transport only 2 people?
It exists, but few people bought it.
About oil companies, be sure that if existed a valid alternative they would invest in the new source of energy: companies are not restricted to one activity only, they always tend to expand in newer sectors.
About water, think about the consumption of water: today it's a limited resource and in many areas it's very scarse and in summer it can be used for domestic uses only (not for the garden or to wash the car). Where would we get the water needed to fuel the millions of cars traveling in the world?

Airplanes exhaust is not a tiny amount, they release CO2 directly into the atmosphere, they release the fuel in eccess in the air before getting to the ground, each plane pollutes like many cars together and the number of planes is continuously increasing: I live at 30 km from Milan's airport and in the night I see every second at least 3 lights flying around for minutes over Milan before getting down, and when one of those goes down, another one gets there.
Car manufacturers have been studying new energies for many years, and many steps have been done to reduce exhaust and increase mileage, they produced hybrid vehicles too, and the research goes on. Taxes on cars are already high.
Now it's the time of planes, what's wrong with it? They pollute, they pay. When it comes to cars it's normal and when it comes to airplanes it's not?
