Why does people enjoy reading books so much?
I could understand some people bring their book and read it in the toilet. Some people go to the library, find a quiet place and then start to read. Some people just read e-books while they are browsing through the internet. Some people specifically go to the beach and then read their novel.
Me, myself, I enjoy reading a book while I'm sitting on my bed.
However, I am not fond of reading a novel since I find it too thick and it already puts me off when I see the thickness.
But strange enough, I don't mind reading the Bible.
How about you?
What makes a good reading to you?

I love reading. I have just finished the 2 volumes of Eragon. I read to relax me. I also take my books in the bath that way it's my quality time for me. Since I've been doing this as a child I haven't dropped a book into the bath as yet lol. Don't think I'd like to though. I find when I am stressed by picking up a good book and getting engrossed in the story I forget about being stressed and calm down.

Hi shoelover, I'm a shoelover as well.:)
You mentioned about Eragon. They make a movie version out of this book. Some people say the movie don't do the justice compare to what's in the book, though. So, after finished reading the Eragon book, do you think you will watch the movie version of this, maybe?
Thanks for your response, shoelover.

Oh my, why do I read? I read for information, pleasure, humor. I can disappear into a book and be somewhere else and someone else until I'm ready to return to real life. Reading expands one's mind, fires the imagination, brings peace, make you laugh or cry and takes you away better than Calgon!
When I was young (I'm now older than dirt) I was concerned with thickness of books too. But then I learned that books can be magical and I don't care how big they are any more.
If you want to try novels, pick one that is of immediate interest to you. Do you like humor? Drama? Love stories? Animals? Travel? Mystery? Find a novel (used paperbacks are of all kinds of sizes and subjects and cost much less) and get lost in the pages!

I can relate to what you're saying here shade4dollars.:) Yes I found a book that's totally a magic book for me.
Everytime I read It, it's like the book is real! Talking to me like a real person talk to me. lol That must be magic I think.
I love humor, love stories and travel. When it comes to mystery, I like mystery in humans not in a book, though.
Thanks for giving your time to talk about reading with me, shade4dollar.

haha....i don't really read much. I read magazines and the newspaper, but I don't have patience to read a book. I have no idea how I even passed highschool or university! I guess I was just really good at BS'ing my way! Believe me, I do try to read. It just goes in one ear and out the other! I'll read a page, fall asleep, then try again the next day...and fall asleep! I never get past the first few pages!

hahaha.. same here sindai! I'm not being proud of not much of a reader nor a writer myself. Ssssh.. don't let everyone knows about this. lol
Once when I was in school we are suppose to read a book. Well, it was not just an ordinary book. It's a novel from some famous writers in my country. After that, we have to stand up infront of the class to tell about the book.
What I did was, I asked around my friends who read the book and just talk about what she/he said about it. I didn't even bother to read the book.
Thanks for stopping by and giving your comment here, sindai.

I personally enjoy reading because it is an escape from my truly hectic, fast paced life that I lead everyday being a single parent and working 40 plus hours a week. When I read, I can escape into the story (if it's fiction of course) or I can absorb more information from a non-fictional book. I feel it stimulates my imagination by picturing the characters, their lives, or situations. I've always loved reading, even when I was a child, and I would escape to a quiet place in the house and finish a book in one day!! My ex couldn't understand my love of reading, and he would complain, so I stopped reading while I was married. A couple years after I got divorced, I was on a medical leave for 9 months (back surgery, ouch!) and I read over 100 books in 9 months! Talk about catching up!! Reading is a very relaxing hobby that I enjoy. :-)

well, as myself is concerned I am a very bood addicted!!! Guess I should write a book called bookaholic or something like this. I cannot explain well why I like reading... reading is a part of me....since I learned how to read I started reading and I've never stopped...I remember coming with my father to the nearest bookshop and having my weekly book as a present, a desired present...it was so special lingering between the shelves and choosing my new "friend". Yes I have always considered my books my friends and I've always found a special thing in them..I take great care of them and one of my dreams is to have an enormous library in my own house ..one of those library made in wood where everything smells of book and wood where to sit in a comfortable armchair while a fireplace is making a lovely warm atmosphere...guess there is no treatment for my illness...and I don't want to be healed....

You love non-fictional book? Correct me if I am wrong, so you are saying that non fiction book is worth your time?!
Perhabs you could give me some of the titles you love the most regarding this non-fiction books?
Thanks for sharing this discussion with me.
As for me, eventhough there is a great love story book out there my friends talk about a lot; I still wouldn't jump to read the book.
Too lazy me, perhabs, eh.

Books that make me think. Mostly man's interpretation of existence, societal problems and changes, trends in politics, power shifts among others. Examples are Alvin Toffler's Future Shock, Power Shift, Megatrends and Fritjof Capra's The Tao of Physics.

I also enjoy reading a book while lying in the comfort of my bed. I believe that you can tell any good book by the first couple of paragraphs! Sometimes once i start to read a book before i know it i am finished the entire book. Those are the times when it was too good to put down!

I like reading good books and I am too much fond of books. But you must be surprised to know that I dont like reading books as such, i like it listening. I like it when someone is reading it loud for me. So what i do is, i download the electronic version of the book and feed it to my text to speech reader, who read for me loud and clear.
What do you think guys, is this a good idea?

Hey, I once listened to the book of the Bible too. At the end of the day, I couldn't recall anything because I was falling to sleep while the headphones still on my ears. lol
This doesn't work for me, I guess.
This is a good idea, try to make something out of this idea sheelgohe. Maybe you can re-sell of what you are doing.
Thanks for your response, sheelgohe.

It's difficult for me to do that, dbeast. Eating between reading, since I tend to forget what I've read. It's difficult to focus, then. lol
It probably has something to do with me own age, eh.
I also don't read book outside the house, because I don't like the weather here in the UK, very unpredictable.
However, I am so happy knowing that you are really enjoy reading. I could tell by how you describing everything here. Thank you dbeast.

people like to read books because they take our minds to a fantasy world into our imagination,at tv or cinema, you see what the direct fantasied, but with books you make the fantasy in the way that you want..its magic

Quite true, maferick.
That's why probably I like to see the movie instead of reading. Because I don't mind being directed by the director of the movies.
Which do you prefer best maferick? Reading to watching the movie?
Thanks for your response. :)

For me, it helps me grow more as a person. Learn and improve the way of my living. Gather some facts in all aspects and to gain wisdom. It also gives me a peace of mind and tranquility. To seek all the answers to some of my questions and appreciate other things, to learn from other people and their cultures. These are just some of the reasons why I love to read books..

In all honesty, I prefer watching a movie/television/computer screen than reading a book. So what kind of books you enjoy the most, raijin? If you want me to guess, my guess would probably anything related to Japanese manga/anime or characters? I could be wrong though. Thanks for stopping here and leave your comment. Appreciate it.

I like books that are easy to read. I try to read when I can and when I'm not tired. But being online cuts down my reading time. Anyway, if the book is really, really good, I'll try to finish it as soon as I can. =)

i love reading, books especially. Honestly, i didn't remember how i can read for the first time. I only remember that i already could read newspaper when i was at play group, thanks to my mom...
what books that i like? hmm.. i guess when ther're talk about love, friendship, children, funny thing or even little bit mystery, i'll be glad to read those. in fact, when i was at the college, i collected lot of comics than novels or others. Asterix, Lucky Luke, Smurf...they really light up my day during hundred assigments (rather hyperbolic hehe..) that made me feel so tired. but sometimes i read non fiction also.., just to fill my curiousity.
Now, i feel that my hobby isn't the same anymore, dun no why, but i feel i dont have much time to read anything...poor me. cant blame my job, my environmentor even my family, it just happened like that.
But you know what? read all your comments - i wish all could be my friend- wake "something" in myself, to realize that reading isnt just a hobby, but also make urself different!!! more enthusiast. So...i think i have to make my life light up again, begin with.... reading. thanks all
