Robert Anthony plant
Born August 20, 1948
in West Bromwitch, UK
Robert's first band was called the "Delta Blues Band". He had gone to school to become an acountant, but ended up leaving to join a group called the "Crawling King Snakes". He would end up forming three groups, all with the same name, "Band of Joy". The last group, had John Bonham in it, and he later introduced John to Led Zeppelin when Robert was only 18 years old. When Robert joined Led Zeppelin, he was still under a contract, and therefore all of the credit of their first album went to Jimmy Page. When Led Zeppelin II came out, Robert got his chance to make his own songs, and play around with differnt vocal effects. In 1968, Robert married Maureen. They went on to have three children. Nine years later, they would lose their first son, Karac, to a respiratory virus.
Robert studied Celtic and other ancient civilizations. His feather in a circle symbol is inspired by his studies.
Plant wrote a couple of songs that are dedicated to others. " All of my Love" is for his son that had past. "going to California" is in honor of Joni Mitchell.
In 1974, Robert had a car accident in Greece. He crushed his ankle and was unable to walk for four months. The album Presense was recorded with Robert in a wheel chair. When he was almost fully recovered, he came down with tonsilitis, which delayed their touring even longer.
In the early 1980's, Robert and Maureen divorced. He would go on to date Alanna Miles, Tori Amos, and Najma Akhtar in the 1990's.
Robert has made many solo albums since the death of John Bonham.
