Having that for dinner tomorrow night! I have always thought of it as such a southern thing. When I moved I realized it wasn't just for southerners. Do you eat pinto beans and cornbread? If so, where did you grow up?

I like that kind of food in limited doses (much of it isn't the healthiest kind of thing to eat all the time).
I used to go with friends to this southern-style restaurant in NYC, but it close. They had great food--cornbread, fried okra, chicken-fried steak, mashed potatoes, etc.

Just had them last week in fact. My daughter moved to North Carolina when she got married and while visiting her she had pinto beans with cornbread but her husband's family also have cold slaw. They layer it on their plates, cornbread first, pinto beans and then the cold slaw. Believe it or not it is delicious so now we have added cold slaw to our pinto bean and cornbread meals.

Oh yeah! One of my favorite meals, except I have to have steamed cabbage with it! I grew up in North Carolina. My husband grew up in Pennsylvannia and had never heard of pinto beans. He doesn't like them, but I fix them anyway! The children all eat them and I love them! Do you put anything on yours? I like them with pepper relish (hot) or hot sauce, or just plain with lots of black pepper! Bring on the beano!

This is a Great Meal, I love it and so does my family, I grew up in Arkansas, and my husband in Florida. Have you ever had field peas and cornbread? It is good as well. what meat do you put in your beans to season it?
