Should military recruiters be banned from high schools?

I don't think this should be allowed without parental consent. What do you think? I don't want anyone influencing my sons going to war

well here is the thing, they can not sign up until they are 18, so yes they can talk in school, but altimately it will be them as an "adult" that makes the decision to go into. Sometimes we just have to let them make their own decisions. yes right now is a diffiult time because we are at war and I can see your concerns.

I am kinda mixed on this one. I dont think its totally a bad thing, but i wouldnt want my son or daughter to join the military right now. See my husband is army, we have no kids but i wouldnt care if my kids wanted to join if anything i would be very proud...and having the recruiters at the school might not be a totally good idea but it does give the kids more info on the military.

UMMM you just don't go to war! There are so many things that your sons can do. I used to work on a Navy Base and believe me being in the Navy is the safest branch they can join and being on a ship is almost guaranteed that nothing will happen. My brother in law is also a recruiter and has been to Iraq 3 times this last time he and others volunteered to go. I don't see any problem with it. If your son is 18 he is old enought to make his own decision and your not going to be there for him forever. Also the military has great benefits for the active military person and their family. No other place offers some of the things the military does.

No they should not. Kids are very vulnerable at this age and are already for an easy way out of their home life. The military knows this and they take advantage of it. I think the military should be banned from recruiting anyone. There are plenty of die hard criminals that can go fight our wars. Plus there are a lot of men and women who want the nmilitary life. It should be banned.

Other countries give criminals the choice of the military or jail. That is how you get UN Peace Keeping Forces in Africa raping 12 year old girls two or three times a night. I perfer the American way of doing it. Trying to get the best and the brightest they can to serve. Winston Churchill once made this statement in a speech: There are only two people who will voluntarly give up their life for you....Jesus and the American GI. Most youth join the Military because they feel a sence of duty. They beleive in this country and what it stands for. Every country the US has conqured has become a country that determines its own future.

I don't know about you, but I would not want to serve next to someone who is a die hard criminal. I would not want to be stuck in a fox hole with them & have to depend on them to save my life.

That option was also given to criminals during the Vietnam war. But ususally not for those who were rapists or murders. This option was given for robberies, auto theft etc.

As someone pointed out they cannot join until they are 18. Also since they are a legitimate future for once they graduate I don't think they can without also banning college recruitors and sports recruitors. If they can allow those why can't they allow the military? They all offer possiblities for a teen's future after high school. The teen once an adult makes a choice as to what they will do. So I think if you allow the others you have to allow the military as well.

Probably so. I really don't like the idea that much myself. It also reminds me of a recent? Simpsons episode where they had military guys who were trying to recruit that age, but couldn't get anyone, so they ended up pre-recruiting everyone at Bart's school. And then Homer got in on it. Crazy episode. But I am sure that the issues you are talking about here is what got the writers thinking about creating that episode. But yes, if I had a child in high school I definitely wouldn't want them being influenced to join the military, either.

It's crazy since the kids are not even old enough to vote

The kids can not join under 18 unless the parents go & sign the papers. The papers have to be signed at MEPS so it is not like they can be forged. No one is forcing anyone to join, the option is being presented though. You can only stop your child until they turn 18 anyways.

Yeah. The academic education provides by NDA from small age itself to highereducation , why to disturb the high schools for our military purpose. Instead of recruitment they can train the students to handle the basic military training.
