How do you teach a new puppy an old dogs tricks?

We have a chow-chow that is 13 years old. We love the dog and she is a great family pet, but we know she is getting old. Chow-chows only live 13-15 years. She is very well behaved and gives us no trouble at all. My husband wants to get another chow in the spring. The reason he wants to get it now is because he wants the dog we have now to help train it. Our dog is tolerant of other animals, believe it or not. I gave my husband a kitty for Christmas and they always end up eating from the same dish. I guess what I want to know is, has anyone had any experience bringing in a new puppy and that puppy learning from the older dog? I know we will have to do our part, house training and socializing, but what can he/she learn from the dog we have now?

i have a new puppy , a little yorkie . i also have a boxer who is with us 8 yrs. i was afraid of the boxer being jealous as he is outside onmly and the puppy lives inside. i have noticed the puppy follows the boxer everywhere , he does not go on to the road as the boxer doesnt go on the road.he also goes to the toilet in same place as the boxer when he is outside. he also chases the cat same as ther boxer but they both love the cat and wont hurt her. maybe this is normal doggie behaviour but i think the puppy does copy the older dog.

That is nice to know. Maybe we will be this lucky with our new puppy. I really hope my new puppy will copy my dog. She is really a sweet dog and I want her to help "train" my new puppy to be as sweet.

Superbren has the right idea. The puppy will pick up most of the older dogs habits. Like when kids say or do things that their parents do. The puppy will have its own personality but for the most part he/she will be a lot like your beloved. You will have an easier time potty training too.
