My neighbour of many years keeps peacocks and one flew over the fence into my garden and laid an egg now I think this egg belongs to me as it was in my garden but he wants it back what do you think I should do give it back or keep it.

Give it back, it is your neighbor's hobby not yours. Why would you want to keep it? Certainly not to raise peacocks or you would have done it along time ago.
To eat...one little egg. Give me a break.
Go put on your nice hat and take the egg to your neighbor.
