What if NASA was to become a supervisor in space travel, but the developement and actual colonizing of planets where to be passed to the private sector. Do you think that this might spark more interest in space travel and rocket science when research can be conducted by businesses rather than just one large entity. Think of how these businesses would compete to build faster saver and more practical ways to travel through space, colonize planets, and maybe even help understand what is beyond our solar system.

Isn't that what the Space Race was all about? We have a new Space Center going up in White Sands. My husband considered attending Emory Riddle (aeronitcal university on base) to work there. Look up Space Race to find more info.
I have though about it and would love to be up there going to colonize other planets/moons, exploring space, maybe I could be a therapist - which they've already talked about needing on long flights in cloe quarters. Look up companies like SpaceX a small, private rocket company backed by the founder of PayPal, he wants to make space flight a private venture.
NASA's budget is doing well enough and private companies are whats needed.
Great topic.
