I tend to go by the rule of 'if it sounds too good to be true it usually is' - To truly make money online you need to be prepared to put in the hard word and have patience, much like an offline business, things won't happen over night, they take time to build.
The fact is that everything you would get in any information product you paid for can be found on the internet for free - the problem is that for many they simply expect money to fall in their lap and find it too hard to put a little effort in.
You also want to be on the look out for support systems - free or paid programs - if they don't offer a decent support line - be it a forum, instructions, email that gets answered etc then you can be pretty certain they're scams.
No matter what though, do the research for yourself - even if it's your best mate referring something to you - you need to be prepared to check it out yourself.

You make a lot of good points. To me, anyone who tells me that I can make money without hard work or tells me that I must hurry because time is running out, set off the scam alarm. Your are right, check it out your self and use your own good judgement, not what someone tells you.

You've already answered it yourself :). It's obviously a scam if they ask you TO PAY in order for you to earn "thousands" from them. An obvious scam. Lots of so-called "data-entry" jobs which require you to pay, are all scams.

No sorry I don't agree with that just because they tell you
to pay first doesn't mean it's a scam that's a business; not a work
from home job it's a difference that means you don't understand
how things work on the internet.
Can you replace your income with these free sites that pay you?
NO IF you have a business do you need money to run it YES there you
have it.

I personally wouldn't do anything if they needed me to pay upfront. To me, that just sounds so fishie, and with all the scams out there like you are mentioning... it's just not safe to do that if you value your money any more.
If you are seriously into making some money though, use your own judgement and remember, if it looks too good to be true, it probably is. But just because something looks too good, it's always wise to check it out, to get a better idea of how you feel about it so you don't miss something great.
Like, when I first heard I could sell my articles to people for big price tags, like $100, I thought, no way... I had to work more than one full day at my job for pay like that... but then I tried it (since it didn't cost me anything) and low and behold, I was actually earning big money.
I think the trick with that site was that I was actually providing some real service to people. I was writing quality articles that people would buy and use on websites or in magazines and because of that, it was more like a real job, and paid well like a real job.
Things like that, really can be real. If you wanted to check it out and see if writing might be your thing, you can do so here: http://www.constant-content.com/?aref=2932
Basically, the idea is you write articles, tutorials, blog postings or reviews and then you sell them for the prices that you set. I know that they pay, because I've been paid several times already, totaling just about $550 so far, and the more I write the more I earn, so it's really worth it to write for this site.
They find the buyers for you and handle the payments, so all you really need to do is focus on the writing, which is good too, because if you look, you'll see that the authors with the most articles up there are also the ones in the top sellers list.
Okay, I'm done now, but if you have questions, feel free to ask me and I'll try to find you an answer.
Best of luck with your earning, and try not to pay money up front for things, because you'll never know if they are scams or not, and the majority of times on those offers they are, so it's not really worth it in the end if you have to buy ten things just to get one that's legit.

They accept quality material... by that I mean, on any subject yes, but it can't be riddled with spelling or grammatical errors. They like to keep a pretty good standard for the buyers.

In my opinion if you have to pay someone to start making money it is a scam. I would never buy a "program" or what they call it.
Stick to the free programs. You will not get rich but you will earn some money at least.
The only thing you should pay money for is to have some hosting for a web page if you want to make money that way. All other things - DO NOT PAY FOR IT! The only persons who will earn money from that is the persons you send your money to.

Well I always just think they are suppose to pay us for work. So if they want a payment or "fee" then I will not try it out. I also try to look at forums about making money online, they let you know which ones are good and which are scams. Most likly there is someone that has tried the one you may be interested in. I am always look and have yet to find a super good one.

Anything that says I can make money doing nothing, I avoid. Often the way they sell you is that you then have to sell the "system" to other people.
I also avoid anything that asks me to send them money. Maybe they are not scams, but I cannot afford to be scammed, and the number that are scams makes the likelihood of me finding one that is not a scam pretty low.

Any scheme that tells you to pay first is a scam beware. I have fallen prey to a few and i have made up my mind never again. If it sounds too good to be true then it definately is a scam.
