What Inspires You? What are you really passionate about?

I saw An Inconvenient Truth three weeks ago and it has rekindled a flame in me. Although I majored in college in Environmental Conservation and International Affairs in 1996, I have not felt this passionately about the environment in quite some time. I have been trying to spread a message of inspiration (thus the name InspirationStation) - not just in regards to caring about the environment, but also by trying to introduce as many people as possible to all the great music, literature, ideologies, and films that I have discovered in my lifetime. In fact, if you want to be inspired and you use myspace, you can track me down (my screen name is "Next Stop...The Inspiration Station") - you can easily access a ton of terrific music - from jazz to reggae to funk to jam to Cat Stevens or Nick Drake - maybe a little james brown. But back to the subject. I profess not to know of everything inspirational which the world has to offer. So feel free to share with me what inspires you most - we both might learn something new and as a result, become happier people. And if you have not seen the film "An Inconvenient Truth," please make sure that you do - the sooner the better - and tell as many people as you can. Seriously! It is very important. In fact, I might go as far as to say that you have a moral obligation to see the film. It will change your life. And don't take it for granted - the world is changing rapidly around us and we all must act. Also, if you have already seen An Inconvenient Truth, please tell us about the things which you have done since seeing it, things that help to reduce carbon dioxide emissions. I want to hear your honorable success stories if you have them! Thank you for your interest and for checking out this discussion.

I have not seen the movie but have heard Al Gore speak of it on television on a talk show. I would rather read a book than watch a movie. I believe we need to heed conservation and take big steps to protect the earth for our children, granchildren, great grandchildren and their offspring. I have a child, grandchildren and great grandchild so I am concerned with the condition of the earth.

Amen! I cannot stress enough the importance of that film. People pass it off so quickly too and that is the scary part. It's a "just put it off until it's too late" kind of attitude. As Winston Churchill said many years ago: "The era of procrastination is coming to a close. In its place, we are entering a period of consequences." I'm tired of people who refuse to listen to the leading scientists in the world and play off An Inconvenient Truth as Al Gore just being fanatical. Truth is, we are changing the atmosphere on the Earth and the consequences have already begun to be felt (i.e. hurricane Katrina, et al). Why not heed the call and do something about it now before it's too late and our children inherit an Earth devoid of what we grew up with? I highly encourage each and every person to see the film and to see it with open eyes and heart. It has nothing to do with politics, but everything to do with morality. We must come together as a global community and it is my belief that it is sites such as mylot and myspace which can potentially generate some of that unification. Atleast it is a start. Thank you, nana for your input! When and if you see the film, let me know what you thought. And remember to maintain hope! All is not lost!

Inspirational in personal life - I would have to think of that a bit. But environmental stuff and what I have done since watching An Inconvenient Truth. Truly inspiring or I would say shock you into reality movie. I have since tried to make some changes and the easiest one being switching off appliances from the wall socket and be particularly carefull about lights. Try and reduce waste. I keep telling people about recycling. I don't know how much of a difference it's making but I do my bit. About inspiration in personal life - I guess seeing a difference personally motivates you to do more.

Thank you for your response! I'm glad that you, like myself, are cognizant of your use of resources. That's one of the major thrusts and purposes of the film - to wake us up before it's too late - even if it's inconvenient! I hope you continue to be inspired!

My children, friends, life, books and the idea of what I really want in my life inspire me....I'm a huge idealist, but I live in reality don't get me wrong, but my dreams motivate me and inspire me to follow what I really want in life.

my family inspires me a lot. you know what? i'm really tired of working and doing the same things over and over again each day of my life but if i quit, i would stop providing for my family financially and i won't make them happy. seeing my family happy is the best thing in this world for me so i pursue working and learning to enjoy my work as much as i can so i won't disappoint my family

I hear that! Sometimes it gets tough - it's easy to get in a rut. And that's exactly why the InpirationStation is here! I hope that I inspired you - not nearly as much as your family of course, but a little perhaps...just maybe. Thanks for your response and keep on raising those bright shiny stars of our children - they are our future and who will inherit this Earth. Come to think of it, you're right, not much else can top the importance of being a good parent!
