What did I do wrong now?

My ex boyfriends parents had $10,000 taken from their account without permission and they called on many family members to help them out including my ex-boyfriend (their son). He had plans to come visit me in March but said he had to postponed it because he had to help the family out. I didn't know the situation at first until his mom called me and told me everything that was going on. She asked and without hesitation I sent them $1000 to help out. I wanted to make sure they didn't get kicked out their house, had food on the table, etc. We were chatting the same day I sent the money and he brung up the conversation again and I told him I know what was going on because your mom had called me and told me about it! I didn't want him to get mad or make a big deal out of this! Was I wrong for telling him I sent his parents some money? i mean I feel as if we are all family eventhough we are not together. We are all still close! Do you think he would have a reason to be mad? He don't act like he is mad at me.
