So funny that you started this thread because I was about to start the same exact thing. So glad I checked new discussions. lol So, for over a year now I have been running this forum and everyone there thinks that my name is something it is not. There were several reasons I decided to go by a fake name, and now I regret it. Every once in a while it would be nice to read my real name instead of the fake one when members talk to me. A few members know my real name and they still call me by the fake one. I even talk to a couple of them on the phone and they call me by my fake name. lol I have never used other people's pictures though. That seems like identity theft. I know I wouldn't want someone using photos of me.

that's a good anecdote. it still feels good hearing someone calling you by your name, isn't it? well, some people would say that since we are dealing with the virtual world, it's but okay to detach our real lives while we are on the internet. i don't agree, though. i can feel the excitement of responding to sensible replies... and it's not just the "virtual me"... it's the "I" facing the desktop.

That's really the case with me in many social networking sites, but I do not lie about my name and username, just about some of my interests and age, city etc. only in rare cases and most of time when actually chatting with somebody to create more interest.

Thanks for responding. If that is the case, do you also think that the person you're chatting with reveals his/her true identity? How often do you doubt about the other person's personality?
