Do you buy clothes from catalogues or just shops/stores?

Do you ever purchase your clothes from catalogues, to later try them on at your leisure to keep or return? Or are you happy with the often tedious and embarassing ritual of trying them on in store changing rooms? Does this work for you, or do you so often find yourself leaving stores empty-handed and disappointed? How do you buy your clothes? Or do you just wear the same ones, year in year out?

When I am feeling adventurous I will head to my local shoppe to browse the racks. Often times I leave without making a single purchase. There are a few stores that you go to that you always find a sales clerk ready to tell you how good you look in a particular item of clothing and you know full well it looks terrible on you. I laugh at them and tell them they obviously don't know what good is.
Many times I purchase through a catalog. I try the clothing on in the privacy of my own home. If I don't like how it looks I send it back. The downside to this is that you can look at something in a catalog and think it looks okay. Sometimes I don't even try it on! I will check out the material and the workmanship. If those fail to impress me I will fold it up and place it back in the package and return it.
Much of my wardrobe is over 5 years old. I tend to hold on to my clothing far longer than most. Why toss out anything. You can alter the article of clothing to fit your size or add to it in order to bring it to date.

It feels such a frustrating waste of time, to leave shops empty handed. That's why like you I like to try on items of clothing at home. I have a very high success rate this way. I hang onto items of clothing for years too, until they start falling apart, or no longer fit, in which case I dump them, or if I am attached to them sentimentally, store them as keepsakes.

I don't like shopping for clothes either, and very rarely do this anymore in person.

For the most part, I have the male I-hate-shopping gene, so catalogs and online are great for me, especially if I'm already familiar with the brand's sizing, fit, colors, etc.
Some things I need to try on or see in person, such as shoes, a suit, etc.

I have that gene too! I have ordered shoes (well, usually trainers rather) through catalogues, and been very happy with them. Mind you, I always go for a size slightly too big for me for comfort, and am always happy with the ensuing footwear.
