Food experiments. How succesful are yours?

Mind you, im talking about trying food out and not making them. Ive had terrible experiences with both infact. Being a food connoisseur i love being a bit adventurous and trying out new cuisines. And undoubtably always go for the fanciest name on the menu with quite a fancy cost as well, finally having to undergo the ordeal of having to eat it with a smile. Despite all this, i never seem to learn my lesson and keep doing the same without ever learning to figure out how bad my foods going to be before it reaches my plate. Ive not made the mistake of having anything nonveg raw so far! Phew to that! Any bad experiences out there?
