Ram 1 GB is enough. and for display card 32 mb or higher. G-Force, N Vidia Company display card is great. and if you get higher MB display card like 64 mb or 128 mb than you will get nice result. but ya purchse 3D graphics card. cause now days are running on 3d. bye friend

But i heard 256MB graphics card is needed,and we need to buy a new one which comes after release of vista only,because only then they will be compatible for it.Is it true.

well. its depend on your work. what types of work you want to do on it. because i install vista on 32 mb graphics card. as my think if you want to work with high graphic than 128 mb will be sufficient... but if there is no prob. for budget than buy 256mb card. cause higher mb graphic cards gives you higher performance.
