I read the prelude of Lord of the Rings. I liked the story of the Hobbit. I know there's a movie about this. I was wondering, when will this be shown in theaters?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Hobbit_%282009_film%29 It says its coming out in 2009. I hope Peter Jackson does the directing as he was great for LotR.

Unfortunately the chances (as of right now) of Jackson doing the film are pretty small as he and NewLine had a falling out over "monies owed" and so will not direct the film.

The hobbit is the best out of the series ive read the book but i must tell you im a huge fan of the old cartoon version i think its better than the book filled with epic folk songs by this awsome singer im sure you could find it on ebay or something like that i still watch it today and im almost 20. its def one of my fav movies of all time besides the story is a billion times better than lord of the rings and really sets you up for all that. check it out peace-Czheck

I don't know if or when there will be another version of 'The Hobbit', although Peter Jackson has said that he would love to do it and wants to do so sometime down the road. There IS an animated version of The Hobbit, but it was made a really long time agao and I doubt that it will come back into theatres. In my opinion, though, it wasn't all that great of an adaptation. They killed off too many of the dwarves, IIRC, and the elves looked really weird and tripped out.

Well, unless there has been some miracl of late, no film adaptation of The Hobbit has ever been done. Rankin-Bass did an animated verson for TV many years ago (late 70's/early 80's) with Orson Bean providing the vopice for Bilbo and John Huston as Gandalf. But that is all that has ever been done for The Hobbit.
