Footstools from popcorn tins?

I had this great idea, but I'm not sure just how to go about it. I want to make a footstool from one of the many popcorn tins I have. They're they large kind that you see around Christmas, filled with popped, flavored popcorn. I would like to be able to use the can for storage, so I'd need to figure a way to pad and cover the lid without covering the rim... or something. I'm thinking of covering the whole thing with cloth, but I'd sure like to hear your thoughts on it.

Use the craft glue called something 6000 I believe I have it right You can glue the material and padding in place and around the edge. This way you can still open it and use it for storeage. You can find the glue in the craft section of Wal-Mart for just a few dollars and your local craft stores would carry it as well. Its a silver and white tube in case I got the number wrong.

Thank you. I'll look for the glue. That might work better than anything.

Yes it works great for glueing most things together. I've even used it to reattach the clothe back to the roof of a car.

What a great idea!!! What I would do is choose a fabric and then with the lid on, apoxy or hot glue the fabric just under the rim making a hem. Then, do the same at the bottom and with the seam (just fold over the rough edges when you glue it down. Get some batting and cut the shape of the top and glue that on the cover, then cover the top as you did the sides "hemming" as you glue. You may need to make pleats or cut notches in the lid fabric to get it to lay down nice, but what a cute idea! I've made yarn seperators out of mine when I'm knitting or crocheting with 2 different yarns at once. Make a cardboard seperator for inside and put one skien of yarn in each compartment, then cut holes in the lid and string your yarn through. It keeps your two skiens from tangling together as you crochet :)

Thanks for the idea. I haven't done this yet, still thinking about it. Using one of those for a yarn separator is a good idea, too!
