Are you a city person who loves to escape to the countryside for your hols? Or a country-dweller who enjoys the hustle and bustle, convenience and nightlife of a city holiday? Or do you stick to the same type of environment you live in, in a different area or Country? What do you look for in a holiday? Peace and relaxation, sightseeing, or noise and socialising? What was your best/worst holiday ever, and why? Share your thoughts and experiences of holidays. We all look forward to them in the boredom and drudgery of work life, but do they live up to our expectations, or are they over-priced and a hassle?

The beach is great - you can see the power of nature in the sea, which is like a living thing. I prefer to see the sea when it's stormy or at least choppy. Thanks for sharing your views.

actually i prefer to live in countryside but work in cities.but if i want to choose a place during my summer vacation,i'd like to go to places with beautiful sceneries, countryside is a good choice for me.i prefer places not too crowd, and not too noisy.several years before i visited Amoy,China, and i found it's really a good city to live in,with seaside and clean air,and people there are not busy for work, they have less stress and they have a comfortable and optimistic attitude of life.that's what i like to see.

Thanks for the great answer Yanstill! I think that living in a rural area near a city gives the ideal balance, and means you can relax completely at home, whilst being near enough to the amenities of a city. I think that countryside and sea-side holidays are definitely the most relaxing and refreshing. Amoy sounds lovely!

I'm definitely a city girl. The country is full of too many cows and farms for me. Haha.

I live in the city so if it is a holiday I would surely look forward to have a vacation in a place that is very different from where I used to live everyday. A place to relax and have peace of mind and also to enjoy life is what I expect in a vacation during holidays.

It sounds like you'd enjoy travelling the world for a year or so! There's so much to see isn't there, and so many different environments and cultures. Thanks for your thoughts, and I hope you get to travel and see everything you want to! All the best.

Depends on the purpose of the holiday - countryside is definitely more relaxing.

Thanks for your answer. I think it's nice to get into the country, especially if you live in a city. City life can get rather hectic, stressed and silly, whereas the pace of life and simplicity in the country is very refreshing!

i am a city boy, I love the country, desert, beaches and open remote places but I don't think that i can actually live away from the cities all of the time.. My holiday destinations are for as remote as possible places, I'm not always able to have a perfect or ideal holiday but some where great and I enjoyed being away from the cities and crowds.. still not satisfied with my holidays and my ideal destination would be some remote tropical island with wild nature and white sandy beaches :)

Thanks for your answer - I think that's probably the case with most city folks - they're used to relying on the cities for their day to day lives, but enjoy getting back to nature once in a while. Cheers.

Yes, I live in city, a very big city that have 10,000,000 people live in. but I come from country. I was born in country.
If I can get more money, I will prefer to live in country, because the fresh air and clean water and nature food, it make me more healthful.
but now I have to stay city to earn more money, in city, the life is convinent and can find good job with high salary.
Maybe I will comeback to country in future.

Thanks for your thoughts! I think that's the problem for most people who live in the countryside - the lack of work for people. In the UK, the price of houses in the countryside is too high for people who were born there to live there when they're old enough to move out of their parents' home. There's also the problem of jobs, and the fact that there aren't many buses, and everything's a long distance from everything else, so if you don't have your own car, it's very difficult. So most of the people who live in the countryside are very rich, and commute to work in the cities, or don't need to work. It's such a shame, because the countryside ought to be for those who want to live there, not just a luxury for the wealthy. I hope you get to go to the country in the future - maybe things will change with the job situation! All the best, and have a good day!

Thanks for your answer - budget does play a big role for most people in which holiday they can afford to take. But if you could afford any holiday in the world, where would your dream holiday be?

I love the waters, so it would be best if I'd relax and unwind in a really cool beach with clear blue waters. I still prefer peace, relaxation, sight-seeing, and just enjoying the wonders of natural beauty found in nature and escape from the hustles and bustles of stress and busy lifestyles.
I once had a vacation in one part of pangasinan here in the philippines, and i loved it. The place was so serene, so quiet, a perfect getaway. I snorkeled along with my cousins, and found great colorful fishes and picked some shells for souvenirs. We had bonfires at night, and even saw fireflies for the first time.

Wow! That sounds like a really magical holiday. Nature is so important - we're part of it too - and it can be easy to forget how important it is, and how connected to it we are, and should be. Great answer!

I'm a city person who wishes to live in the countryside even for a while. Peace and quiet reign in the rural areas. The hustle and bustle of the city is good for young people like me but it tends to get tiring after some time. I've always dreamed of a tropical vacation with lots of sand, sun and surf...plus refreshing coconut juice straight from the shell!

It sounds like you like to explore and experience different types of environments and cultures! Travel and experience of different cultures really can broaden the mind, and give people a more rounded perspective (if that's not a mixed metaphor!). Thanks for sharing.
