How does harry potter compare as a book series

I absolutly love the harry potter series, everytime i read one of the books its like im transported to a world where magic actually exists. What im wondering is how harry potter is seen against the other excellent book series out there, such as the lord of the rings series? Also what are the best books you've read which you could recommend for me, as im looking for a new book to read. thanks

Prior to reading HP series i did not believe in Ghosts , witch, warlocks... and i also did not wanted to listen to such nonsense... but after reading the book i have changed my idea... i think these things may exist
