How many people do NOT have a cell phone? Seems like everyone has one nowadays, but I do not. When I was working in the business world as a Loan Officer, I had one. Since now being a SAHM, I found no need for one (besides the fact that our house is almost in a dead spot & we'd have to go outside to use it).
I find that I'm now an odd man out. When picking up my son from school one day, the school office told me that since my two babies were sleeping & instead of getting them out of the car when I got to the school (to come in and sign him out), if I just called them on my CELL phone when I arrived, they would send him out for me. They acted VERY surprised when I told them that I didn't have one. I seem to get that a LOT. When someone asks for an alternate number and I tell them that I don't have one, they always ask for a cell number, and again I tell them, I don't have one and I hear "oh.?." Like "you don't??"Do you think as a SAHM parent that it's really necessary? Or necessary in general? Sometimes I like not having one. When I used to have one, my 15yr old would ALWAYS find a reason to call me when I was out. Even if to ask what was for dinner (& it could've still been morning). Anyone else not have it and are just fine with that?

The need for a cell phone is to a certain extent, and maybe a large extent, a thing of the mind. It's about what we are used to, what we think we need, what we think others want or need and about keeping up with the times. We could all live without them, we would just do things differently.
I enjoy the benefits of Tracfone and Net10. Most would say these are not real phones, but I can assure they cost real money.

I have carried a cell phone for the past 14 years of my life, before almost anyone I knew even had one. The reason I carry it is for security, and security alone. Being a female who has to drive back and forth to work each day, sometimes at night, I feel better knowing that if my car broke down or if I were in an accident, I could call someone. I don't use my phone for entertainment purposes. And I don't have the most hi-tech phone available.

Well, I do have a cell phone but here is why I have one: I have health problems and my husband calls to check on me from work. One night, I passed out and did not know he called. He drove the 30minute drive to check on me. He took me to ER. I now am not allowed to go anywhere without my cell phone so I can call for help if I fall or whatever. He now calls me on my cell to check on me. My hubby loves me, so he bought me a cell phone. :)

No, my wife and I don't have any cell phones anymore, not after regularly receiving $400-$500 phone bills! When they come up with a set in stone plan and fee policy, then we will reconsider. We don't need them, if there's an emergency, well, there's always someone else with a cell to borrow from, no?

when one thinks about it a cellphone was something straight out of "Star Trek - the next generation" or some other b-grade sci-fi,10 years ago, now u dont leave the house without your keys, wallet and mobile. when i was growing up and we didnt have cellphones here in South Africa my gran visited me once and i needed to contact my friend to tell him to wait outside and my gran recomended we develop the 3 ring call - if u phone and let the number ring 3 times it was me to tell my friend either i was coming over or he must wait outside, the 2 ring call was he must come over. - if one thinks about it she was the pioneer of the infamous "missed call" . but when we think about it nowadays when we try contact somone on their mobile and they dont answer we immediatly get nervous, why arnt they answering my call? where are they? what happened to them? when the time before cellphones if we called the house or office and they werent in then they werent in and we couldnt reach them. another thing - i understand the want to not have a mobile phone and i agree with you on some of the perks it enjoys - cellphones have ruined the art of meeting new people, back in the day when u were waiting for a plane or in a queue you would inevitably start up a conversation with the person nearest to you, nowadays you phone someone you know and have an idle chit chat, and cellphones are especially bad when your having a huge party, its 3am your intoxicated and you decide to call your old girlfriend and at that moment you cant remeber why u broke up or havnt spoken for a long time but u phone her because you have your mobile handy. its a wonderful/terrible/resoponsibilty creating contraption.
my opinion on the mobile phone!

I have one, but some of my friends don't. We actually do find it strange that some people don't have one, but it's no big deal. Why should you be chained to a phone all day.

I think there are still some people who do not keep cellphones but have no major reason for this. Cellphones have given so much ease to people and accessibility has increased greatly. Great are those who have invented and discovered technology of cell phones.

Having cell phone these days has really become neccessary. Everywhere people ask your cell phone number. I too didn't have cell phone till few months back & I used to feel really different when I used to see others reactions when I told them I don't have a cell phone. I am not even working, am a student & if you see I don't need cell phone because I have phone at home. But still I had to buy a cell phone after getting really tired keep saying to all I don't have a cell phone.

Know a days haveing cell phones plays an important and as well as different role. They are used for the good once and bad once.So finally if we use it for sufficient purpose only it is use full other wise it will direct all the society to the wrong way.

I think that cell phones are the new thing everyone is suppose to have.I have one as my home phone. That means i don't use it outside the home. [It was easier to get at my home than a land line]. I don't think you need to get one just because everyone assumes you should have one.If you are happier without one.
