What are your views on bluegrass music today? Do you like the changes that are being made from the traditional sound? Do you like the up and coming artist? Who is your all time favorite? Least Favorite? How can us fans keep the tradition alive and growing? Why is there no dissussions on here about bluegrass music? Let me know!

There's been a lot of music I've heard called bluegrass, some I like, some I don't. I've heard some Tony Trischka music that I liked. And my nephew is playing in a bluegrass band in Brooklyn, NY--surprisingly, there are a few bluegrass bands in NYC.

I agree with you, some of the new stuff I don't care for like Nicklecreek. Just can't get into them. You'd be suprised where bluegrass is. I have met so many artits over the past 5 years and they are from everywhere! It's really big in Japan! We are part of Roanoke Bluegrass Weekend and Fiddlefest. Check them out!

I'm not too fond of a lot of modern Bluegrass, simply because it sounds too close to pop music for me. I like that authentic classic sound & feel.
It's quite big in the UK, but most bands that play Bluegrass tend to diverse a bit & mix it up with other stuff such as folk & country which is fine by me, a little variation is good :)
A lady friend of mine that is a Welsh folk singer went out to the States a few years back & ended up playing in a Bluegrass band, she plays a great fiddle & is loving it.

Lester Flat & Earl Scruggs are really good, Foggy Mountain Breakdown. But there's another great band from the 50's that I like called The Osborne Brothers.
I'm not too familiar with many modern Bluegrass bands, there's a couple of good ones I've come across on myspace, will have to dig their names out

I love the Osborne Brothers as well. My soon to be father in law played with some of these ledgends. Still plays these days, just not as much. He actually turned down Lester and Earl three times when asked to join the band. With his family, he couldn't travel like they wanted him to. Newer bands like Ronnie Bowman(former lead singer for Lonesome River Band), Grasstowne(Allen Bibby). Some really good music to check out.

I've lost touch with the bluegrass scene over the years, as the various bands I've been in have leaned more towards Rockabilly. But it's always there in my heart & later this year I got my heart set on buying a Banjo. I love the sound & am already a good guitar picker, so think I'd soon learn to play it
