yar i used linux for doing my labs in college days.after lab exam i realised the fact that the linux is nothing but a unnecessary thing that wasting my 5 GB hard disk space. so i uninstalled it. now i have only windows xp. it is more comfortable to work with. linux is fast growing and if they provide little more better user interface then they could challenge windows. linux has 7 modes where 7 users can log in at the same time. but windows only one can log in at a time. linux is more secure file system than windows.

well i think , The answer depends on your needs. Windows is the best choice if you want the convenience of virtually guaranteed compatibility with just about anything out there. You can walk into any store, and grab a peripheral or piece of software with reasonable assurance that it will work with your system. Microsoft Office is the de facto standard business application suite, so if you need absolute compatibility with your PC at work Windows will most likely be the one for you. GNU/Linux is free software. Free as in freedom, meaning it respects and maintains the users' freedoms as defined by Richard Stallman. I use it becuase I hate proprietary standards. While there are fewer commercial software out there for it, there are free alternatives to every app you can imagine. Open Office or KOffice for your office suite needs, Kopete or Gaim for instant messenging. Konqueor, Firefox, Opera, or ven Lynx for web browsing, Kdevelop for your IDE, Too many media players to name (kaffeine, juk, amarok, Totem jsut to name a few) The Gimp or Krita for photo editing, Ekiga for video conferencing. There is so much software for GNU/Linux.

I think a lot of people try linux because they think it'll be like windows, but give up when they find out it's not. I don't really prefer one over the other, but as far as ease of use, it's windows for me and despite there being fairly decent open source equivalents to certain programs, some windows apps are irreplacable. I can think of at least three that if they were available for Linux, I'd be more inclined to permanently switch.

I am particularly used to using Windows software and it is very popular in our country as compared to Linux. Moreover, newbies would not be interested in using Linux at all, although it is a FREE open source software. Even a Linux Foundation has been formed to compete with the MS Windows with IBM and some other companies pitching for Linux. Most of the applications or software you use on your PC would not normally function on a Linux PC.
