Dinesh Karthik is an wicketkeeper-batsman who plays for the Indian cricket team. He started his early career as a batsman, but took up wicket-keeping to enhance his chances of furthering his career. Making his international debut in late 2004 in both ODI and Test cricket, he was the regular wicket-keeper in Tests whilst only making rare ODI appearances. He was ousted by ODI wicketkeeper Mahendra Singh Dhoni in the Test team in late 2005 after Dhoni enjoyed a strong run of batting form while Karthik did not. After taking on the duty of opening the batting in domestic cricket, Karthik was recalled to the national squad as a batsman in late 2006 after injuries and form slumps hit other batsmen, playing occasional matches in both forms of cricket on the tour to South Africa.
With the last few knocks....he seems tobe a perfect replacement for the Kaif's and the Raina's...should India look fwd to him as a good batsman in any place in the order...

No Arguments,
Even though Dinesh Karthik is not a better replacement for Kaif, but Most better replacement for Raina.
See how he played in today's match and got it as winning match for India.
Isn't it then a Better replacement??
So, No Arguments about him.....!!

true... 100% true.
He ahs dispalyed his talents in the test match at SA and now in India for ODI.It shows his patience and his determination during the worse time.
Its a good show when all the wickets are falling around him he stil fights, thats wht required for players

Firstly we shouldnt be talking abt replacements
cricket isnt jus a game where one player plays forever
karthik is a good player
raina is very young
and kaif is totaly out of form
for now karthik is scoring
so be happy
once karthik goes out of form
raina will mature more
or kaif wiill play well
and get his postiton
ti should be a cyle

Ya, Dinesh karthick is the best replacement for kaif and karthick! He is an consistent batsman and he used to score minimum of 30 runs every match! He is good at wicket keeping and also in fielding! His fielding is as good as Raina!!!! He cant be compared with Kaif in fielding but he is good at batting as well as feilding and wicket keeping!

it is better for the indian team managers to make an announcement that those who are included for their batting abilities will be dropped from the team if they score less tha50 in 5 continuous innings.I donot think even asingle payer is capable of that.so why debate kartik or kaif?

He certainly looks in better form than kaif but i am not sure about raina because he is surely a good batsman and a committed player

no sorry..first karthik is wicket keeper..he cannot substitute a batsman...because raina is a specialist batsman..moreove if yuvraj singh is back into the team where will he bat at lower order dhoni is there too.and so he can replace dhoni only, as he is a better keeper than dhoni..he has more chances in tests than in one dayers..

well...karthik is a batsman keeper..he started of as a batsman ...he added the keeper tag to his name leter in his carrer...he is equally a good specialist as raina and others...and for god sake dont misuse the word specialist for batsman like raina...i feel a specialist is one who performs consistently....and as far as UV role is concerned ...UV is always in the team as soon as he gets fit...its just a gudthing happening to india with good player up the order ...as Karthik and Gambhir cud be interchangable...as Karthik was a specialist opener for his state in domestic cricket....

Yes I think dinesh karthik is better than kaif because karthik is better option he can bat and he is a hitter and fielding is also good and he is a option for wicketkeeper almost he is all rounder

At first I thought that was the most stupidest decision taken by the board to keep two wicket keepers and keeping DInesh Karthik for batting. But by the way Karthik is playing these days and helping India out of crisis situation like in today's match, I think their plan is working out and Karthik is delivering what was expected from him very efficiently.

one match performance cannot make a player a better player ,
you cannot compare kaif with anyone , kaif is a very good middle orderd batsman + very good fielder. and same with Dhon ,Dhoni cannot be compared with dinesh , Dhoni is much far better batsman than kaif or raina or dinesh.
Dhoni with high scoring rate and very good wicket keeper ,
so at end i conclude that karthik is not as good as kaif,dhoni or raina.

kaif is now days not consistent,but one thing for sure he is no 1 fielder in indian cricket at present.coming 2 raina he has a capabilty of bating,bowling and feilding 2.he will b used as bowler on slower pitches.
coming 2 replacement of karthik for raina or kaif i dont think so he is tat sort of capable of replacing dem.raina should retain his position in cricket team in world cup

raina already has got enough chances..but couldn't delever what was expected...so i think karthik is better batsman than raina...but we can't say whether karthik is better replacement than kaif or not...for that karthik has to prove more...if we judge on the current form then i think that karthik should continue....
