I remember the day I was told that I had to wear glasses. I was a foster child to start with and the kids at school hated and teased me. It seemed like I was in a fight every other day and now they tell me I have to wear glasses. My life is over.
Well I was right and it was a bit of a nightmare having them, but it was nice to actually see again. Well I broke a lot of glasses until they finally got me unbreakable and really ugly ones.
How do you like wearing them?

Your friend had to wear the patch to strengthen a weak eye muscle - not to improve his vision. I know - I had to wear one a long time ago - they were trying to avoid doing surgery on my eye muscle - I developed a "lazy eye" (it turned towards my nose) when I was about 9. Unfortunately for me, it didn't work and I had to have the surgery anyway - when I was in 5th grade.
To this day (some 40 years later), I will NEVER forget the first time I could take the bandage off and actually LOOK at my eye after the surgery. Remember now, I was about 10 at the time lol....it looked like one of those bloodshot monster eyes on a Halloween mask....I took one look and let out a scream so loud my mom thought someone was killing me lol.
And to get back to the question the topic starter asked....I have been wearing glasses since I was 4 - have always had (and will have) bad eyes. My astigmatism is too bad for me to be a canidate for the laser procedure some have mention. Can get around without my glasses (in the house) - but could not function without them. Wore contacts for about 7 years (13-20) but can't afford them any more. Matter of fact, am waiting to get my tax refund check so I can get a new pair of glasses - the ones I have now are 8 years old.

I have been wearing glasses since I was 3. I had an eye operation when I was 4. I used to take my glasses and put them under the back tire of the neighbors car so that they would back out over them! My son is now paying me back! What goes around comes around!

i'm sorry the kids at school gave you a hard time about the glasses and being a foster kid. i've been wearing eyeglasses on and off since first year in highschool (correctional glasses). some friends and classmates teased me but i'm glad they used good tags like 'ms. genius', etc. i'm not wearing any now, but i guess i'd need one soon :)

I feel so sorry for you. Foster kids have such a hard time, anyway. I had glasses young like you did, but I never wore them until I was in college. I went around not being able to see instead of looking different. I wore them until this past September when my mother paid for me and my daughter to have LASIK surgery. Now, for the first time since I can remember, I can see without glasses, and it's wonderful. For my daughter, it's a whole new world. She had worn glasses since she was 3 and is 27 now.

Wearing glasses from that young has got to be a tough for a little girl or boy. Just keeping them on would be a challange.
I have often thought of getting laser correction, it would certainly be a very strange experience not to wake up and be able to see without glasses. Pretty cool.

I didn't want to wear them when i was a child either. i think i was about 10, and even though i got to pick them out i never liked to wear them, i used to just leave them in my schoolbag and tell the teacher i forgot them at home! lol this worked for quiet some time believe it or not. I eventually had to start wearing them agian so that i would stop gettin headaches. but i was old enough by then i could wear contacts. untill i realized how much of a pain in the bum they are. now i just stick to my glasses. much easier then SQUINTING at everything :)

I hate to wear glasses. Been wearing them since i was nine.. started to wear contacts but find them too much of an inconvenience and they never really correct my astigmatism. So am stuck with my classes coz blind as a bat without them. They are first thing i look for in the morning and the last thing i take off at night.. I remember when i just started wearing them at 9.. how i always pretend i did not need them until one day i missed my school bus coz i can see the licence plate..heheh

I like the benefit of seeing but don't care for the glasses, except when they are my sunglasses and I am fishing. Then I don't mind so much.
I basically have my glasses back on my face before I even get my eyes open in the morning.
It's not good to try and go without them you might walk into a wall.

I got glasses in 7th grade. I was really because excited because I've actually always *wanted* glasses. But now, six years later, I'm ready for contacts.

I tried the contacts and found they just made my eyes too dry and I had to take them out. I may try them again this summer because they now how drops for your eyes that actually help.
I would love to be able to wear sunglasses that look good and protect the eyes while fishing.

I don't know what I would do without my glasses now. I did break them a few years ago and was without them for 10 days and that was a real pain. I had to even take that time of work because I couldn't see.
Now I keep a couple of pair just incase anything happens. :)
Strange how we grew up being called 4 eyes but today people just buy frames to wear so they look intelligent.

I appreciate the fact that glasses allow me to see so much more than I would without them but they are a bit of a pain to keep clean.
Right now I have two pair of glasses, well actually three pair. I have an old pair that work well for reading my computer screen. Another pair for everything else and one pair that are polarized sunglasses so I can go fishing.

I was about the same age, but i was bitten by friends dog. It had been hit by a car a little earlier in the day, and bit me as i went to stroke him. He nibbed me by the corner of my left eye afterwards i started skwinting at things and at the TV. So i was sent off to get my eyes tested and found that i was short sighted and have worn glasses since. I did try contact lenses a few years ago but couldn't get on with them.

i started wearing glasses when i was in 13. good thing people in our class are really nice nobody really made fun of me. the only disadvantage was, we were a really small class and i was the only wearing glases, my classmate kindof assumed that i was smart because i was wearing glasses so they keep choosing me to lead study group which really sucked since i was a very lazy student :(

I have been wearing glasses since I am 10. at first my mom bought me real ugly ones and I didn't like them. When I was old enough to buy my own things changed. I tried contacts but I don't like them. I am lost without my glasses. I am as blind as a bat. They don't bother me.
