Do you think movies have gotten too graphic or gory?

I've noticed that the majority of Oscar-nominated/Golden Globe-nominated movies have at least one of either intense graphic scenes or intense gore. I for one, have a hard time dealing with too much gore, yet I really would be interested in seeing "Pan's Labyrinth," "Children of Men," "Blood Diamond," "Little Children." I've read user reviews on each of them and they are all said to have a lot of gore and then Little Children is said to have disturbing graphic images. Do you think that there is a reason for this? Do you think it's a trend? Do you think it's necessary?

A good movie should entertain you. Thats the primary goal of movie makers and movie goers too but these days, movie watching is a mental activity. You get to think about it, linking up unconnected dots for quite sometime even after you walk out of theatre. I guess whats necessary is having more comedy to relax our minds and become stressfree. I would not be up for gore anymore.

yep, i'd have to agree. decapitation, blood, violence, and gore has become a common scene in most horror and suspense movies. it's not really a pleasant sight to see. but because most of the horror and suspense movies are having these morbid scenes, it would seem really lame to not have such. i'm not really into blood and gore but if you watch, hostel for instance, and then watch an Skeleton Man, you'd find the older movie really lame.

I prefer movies that are more psychological thrillers and do not need to resort to too much gore in order to be scary. A lot of the older horror films never needed the gore to be absolutely frightening. So no, I do not think excessive gore or intensely graphic images are necessary at all.

I don't think movies are too gory. Problem is, I think I have seen too much gore and I have become desensitised. Mostly if they cap somebody, I just laugh (especially if they are shot in the head).
But I did have problems with the movie 'the wind that shook the barley'. At a certain moment they tortured somebody, pulling out his nails. And that I just can't stand, I begin to feel it myself.
