I loved this book as well, the only thing was that I had just read the Belgariad/Mallorean and Sparhawk series previously, so could notice the similarities between the books that it actually started to get annoying! Em in Athalus was so much like Flute from the Sparhawk series, they even said the same things all the time! Still loved all the books though :)

Yeah Althalus is my favorite among David Eddings works. But as mentioned above, he is tediously repetative. The stories have a tendency to use similar storylines, and characters with same qualities and actionpatterns. But by and large, I still like the David Eddings books. I just read my way through his entire collection, and just reached Althalus again. Second time Im reading it.

Oh yes. Once you've read one set, it tends to sound the same. He repeats certain types. His new set:The Dreamers, still does it. But it does a little readjusting of personalities. The thief isn't a good guy or helpful. He combines some of the others, like the small guy being a blacksmith. But he develops his characters so well, it's still enjoyable. He's my favorite author. I just make sure not to read certain sets right after another.

I liked this one too, though it isn't my favourite of his. My favourites are the Belgariad/Mallorean etc (which I read first, and which are the books that really got me into reading as a kid). I really enjoyed the Elenium too, though I think like this it was a bit slow to get into. I prefer the Belgariad/Mallorean because there are just more characters to love - Silk, Belgarath, even right through to Urgit, are all fun characters that bring something different to the book. I thought that in comparison, the characters of Redemption of Althalus and The Elenium weren't as interesting. But still good, all in all.

I read this one a few years ago.Thought the characters resembled the ones from The Belgariad. I like the happy ending for Althalus the thief though. He gets a goddess and is immortal.
