PIZZAS that kill!!!

Recently in The Times of India there was an article/advertisement about Pizza delivery Companies which guarantees you free pizza if they fail to deliver within the specified time (like 30 minutes). Have you ever wondered who pays for the free pizzas??
Well, the delivery boy is made to pay for the pizza. They are paid such low wages and the price of the pizza is deducted from their monthly wages which can amount to upto 60% in some months (It becomes difficult to run their family). To deliver the pizzas the delivery boys take high traffic risks as delivery becomes their priority. Their life and safety risks are neither looked into by the Pizza Shop Management nor the Pizza Delivery Boy himself. (They are more concerned to avoid the deduction from their salary).
If this type of exploitation is carried on in your city's pizza logistics we should stop availing the home delivery system, because to deliver our pizza one person may be risking his life. Is the life of an Indian citizen so cheap and of no value? In case he is late in delivering the pizza, we are enjoying the free pizza at the hard earned money of a poor delivery boy. Is it fair or right on our part to do it?
As a human, please think. At least, I am inclined to think reading this. Please think how many ppl attached with single pizza delivery boy.....
Take care.

Oh my. That poor pizza delivery guy has a rough way to go for his daily earnings. I do not think it is right, but how can we change the way the system is for them? Maybe they should only have carry out. But the poor pizza delivery guy will have to go find him another job.

Yes, you are absolutely right. And I know its true because my own friend is working at a pizza outlet.
What my aim is to make out myLot community to make aware of this. Atleast whosoever is reading this can help those guys out there. What we can do to prevent this is this. We can pay for the pizza delivery even if its not delivered on time. That way, the poor guy wont have to shell out their own money. You will be shocked to know that inspite of this rule, they aren't being paid a good monthly salary.
I would call this a literal exploitation!! These pizza companies are really bad!!

Wow... I don't know the pizza company will deduct the money from the delivery boy's salary! I think this is cruel and should be done by giant companies! But thankfully I've never insisted to have free pizza even if the delivery boy sent it late. Now I realize why the boy asked me first whether I would apologize him if he send it late.

Must be unfair to the delivery boys. Their work is difficult, tiresome and risky, yet they are earning very low wages. Everybody gets late due to some reasons. Like the delivery boys, if they get late in delivering, they must have a very genuine reason for their lateness, depending on the nature of their work. So those companies must consider the earnings of the poor boys. The people receiving free pizzas are gaining unmerited favour. Themselves they have a lot of money, so why are their pizzas being paid for by the poor delivery boys? Its good to mind the welfare of others.

i had also read this and since then when ever i order any pizza i do pay them or else i would ask them how much time it would take because i am aware of the traffic conditions in my area so if i am i ordering it i see to it i order it off peak hours. because some of my friends are also in the same profession so i dont mind waiting for couple of mins.

Well I think that's stupid it shouldn't come out of the delievery boys pockets. I would just quit if that happened to me. It's not fair that they are both risking their life and forced to go fast in order to get it there on time.

Wow! This might as well be very much true, since it is usually deducted from the delivery guys salary but I never thought of that this way. Usually I thought that the pizza company might pay it. Over here, we don't have that system. If it is over 30 minutes than you only recieve a small discount because it is a bit colder, thats all.

Since it's not a single shocking like Jessica Lal, we cant expect the public to rise to their pathetic condition. Again it's in the govt's hands which by all means is futile even to imagine about it, since they're more bothered about fleecing more from the delivery boys than the Piza outlet itself. I think it needs a general awareness like banning plastics, civil sense etc., to bring about this change. Or, the delivery boys have to take a procession or something to atleast voice their woes. whether anything will come out of it is anybody's guess

That's the way it is here as well in the Philippines. It's not so safe for the delivery guys in motorcycles because of the maniacs who drive like crazy and the traffic too. That's why the pizza almost always comes too soft and undercooked! I guess they should stop that promo, it's not doing anybody any good.

My brother delivered pizza for a very short time while looking for another job and had to pay for several pizzas, so I know you're right.
Another thing to watch with pizza is whether or not it's cooked fully. We went in for carryout one evening and picked up a chicken pizza which we discovered was still pink when we got it home! We had to bake it for a few minutes more to get the chicken fully cooked. I could see this happening with a delivery situation too. Be careful!

God! this is really bad, and you are right, but the question is , how many of us would really think seriously about it?
it is indeed a shame that hardworking delivery guys are penalized for this, and yes, they do drive very fast to deliver the food they carry. we all are responsible for this, and together, we should be able to voice our opinion against this and do something concrete. don't you think so?

Iam an old indian and if you ask me only fools eat PIZZA. India has hundred thousand tasty dishes which are not available in any other country in the world yet the indian who goes after PiZZA for the sake of giving a modern appearence is surely a person who does not know what is taste. The rate of umemployment is so high that a young man prefers to die rather than remain at home without a job.In acountry where the human life has lost its value you cannot expect any betterment. The child welfare minister ensured that the child would not be employed but has she taken any action against the parents who produce those children which they cannot afford to feed? No to our politicians what suits them is OK. They go to the extent of amending the constitution to suit their own purse and politics.

Dominoes Pizza here in the US used to do that also. They quit offering the 30 minute guarantee because they said it caused too many accidents by the delivery people.

I don't think this is a really great job, I would search for something else! Driving with risks and also losing money isn't worth it, it are indeed pizzas that kill. Hope those delivery boys are going to take another job..

I live in the States, in Florida. Here, it is very common for restaurants to make servers pay for meals when a customer walk out, even though this is illegal.
My boyfriend actually currently delivers pizza and waits tables at a small, independently owned restaurant. The owners consider him family and treat him extremely well. But, I know that not everyone has quite that luck.
Thank you for the insight into this aspect of Indian life.
