No, stretch marks are not caused by scratching.
You could also try rubbing virgin coconut oil on your tummy. It works for some people, maybe it would work for you.

Scratching your tummy does not cause stretch markers. you'll get stretch markers b/c your belly is getting bigger when the baby starts growing more. It's not good to scratch your belly. It is bad for your skin, and it causes the itching to not go away. I would talk to your doctor, maybe they can put you on somthing to help with the itching. Trust me, it's normal. alot of people have itchy bellies when they are pregnant.

I would not scratch it because sctaching in general is bad for your skin. You are better off rubbing the area - pregnant ot not. Scracthing doesn't cause strech marks. Strechmarks are cause by your skin streching too quickly during pregnancy (or life in general). Keeping you skin hydrated does help reduce the risk of getting strech marks.

I don't think it causes stretch marks. It does seem to leave more of a sore scratch as your stomach grows though. I found if I scratched my stomach it got ugly red scratches that hurt on it.

I think scratching contributes to them, yes. The most your skin is stretched, the worse the stretchmarks will become. So if you scratch hard and end up "dragging" the skin in one direction or another, so to speak, it will elongate the marks.
Just my opinion though.

Scratching will NOT cause stretch marks. If you scratch to the point of bleeding then you may leave scars which look like stretch marks though.
The main thing that determines whether or not you'll get stretch marks is the elasticity of your skin...which is genetics. If your mother got stretch marks you are likely to get them, if she didn't, you're likely not to.
I've found that baby lotion in the morning and at night works better than anything else. I also keep a cocoa butter stick in my purse for when I'm out and my stomach won't stop itching.
