More and more it is apparent that men do not have the politeness toward women that once was. Is this because women don't deserve it? Is it because traditional family values have gone by the wayside? Where have all the knights in white shinning armor gone? Give me your thoughts!

Not all young men are with out honor or good manners. Here in the south, children still say yes mame ,no mame, yes sir no sir. My oldest 2 boys are married, and various girlfriends have told me that they are too independent to have their doors opened for them. That it makes them feel awkward. I do not believe that it all comes down to family values, that certainly true perhaps with some young men. My boys grew up with doors being opened for me, that ladies always enter a room or door first, that when a lady comes to the dinner table those men already seated, stand and that the gentleman always walks to the left when taking walks on roadways.
I truly believe that manners have evolved and we can not group all young people as bohemians because they walk to a different tune then we did. As long as basic kindness and gentleness is being displayed we need to leave them alone. Young men still ride in on white horses, but maybe not like their daddy's did.

I also was raised in TN, Henderson County. And I do believe there is a set of standards and respect that is taught in that up bringing. And you are also very right on women not allowing the man to be polite. Girls today, inclucding my two girls have been taught to be strong and survive with or without a mate. This independent thinking doesn't allow a man to do his stuff! Woman are not viewed as helpless anymore.
