How many discussions people start per day? Why so many?

I am getting email notification when my friends start new discussions. Today I get information about 54 new discussions that one of my friends starts on mylot. Next person starts 10. Why so many? I also noticed that some people never discuss anything, they just start topic and let it go. It doesn't make me feel good. Any time I respond I feel like I am talking to myself.

It's as if some people starting topics just throw them out there and then don't do anything more. If I start a discussion I feel like I should 'attend to it,' check in and respond to at least some of the responses, and maybe answer questions. That's part of the reason I start so few discussions (that and the fact that most of my discussions have fewer than 5 responses!).

I also get that feeling. They should just be called topics and not discussions, as nobody seems to be discussing anything. I have also noticed some members just respond to the first few answers and pick the best responses from these. I cannot understand why they do not leave a comment after their responses. I found that when I left a comment after the responses which I received, that my earnings increased dramatically. It was also much easier to to this than to search for new topics to respond to.

I am glad that someone else is sharing my opinion. I think that some people are just talking to themselves. They just start topic after topic. Sometimes new topic is about topic that was on day ago. It is like scary movie number II, than scary movie number III.

That's really funny, but I have to say I agree with you.

I only have notify on for a few of my friends, so I don't get that many notices. I do check them out when I am on here. I was going to try to do 4 discussions a day, but I learned real quick that is impossible. So, now I am trying to do at least 4 a week. I want my discussions to really mean something.

I don't have notification on for more than 8 people, but one person starts over 50 discussions per day, so I end up turning it off.

well interesting thought actually. But as someone said, you do get paid for writing. I do try to start, in my opinion, good discussions. Sometimes i don't get any answers but maybe someday someone will see my post and say, hey, i think like that. i wouldn't ask hey what's your favorite color, mine is blue, but I might answer someone if the ask that question. The good thing about this is that you can answer anytime, nomatter if the post is 3months old or so. SOmetimes I have a lot of thoughts and i post more. Some days i am more productive or have more time. (like today)

I know what you are talking about. I deleted most of the "friends" as without doing what each need to do, they don't help you in any way on this site.
When I had just 1 friend, that started over 50 in 1 day and I got hit with all the email notifications.. and all on topics that made no sense.. I deleted all the friends that were in list and started over.
I personally think that mylot should put a limit on how many new topics a person can start a day!

None of my friends starts that many discussions and if they did, i would look at the quality of them. Who can come up with 50 or more qualitydiscussions - sounds more like spamming to me =)
I always responds to the people who gives me the time to reply to a discussion that I started and I rate them all and picka best response when i find it.. Might be the first - might be the last!

Maximum I start 3 discussions a day. Otherwise, mostly 1 or 2 everyday. Yes, you are right that many people start discussions & never respond to the responses they get. I always try to respond upto 20 responses I get to my discussions. In the beginning it was difficult & I used to stop responding to responses sometimes, but now I manage to respond to responses I get. I too don't understand why same person starts 10s of discussions daily & most of them don't get responses.

Yes I notice the same thing and had to turn notifications off.. no one can start more than 10 "good" discussions per day, it's usually just nonsense for those who post many discussions, It will be good for me to start one discussion daily .. it needs time to get back and comment and rate everyone, I don't like to start something and just let it go ..

i believe in what mylot guidelines had laid before all the members i.e., quality posts and threads. On the contrary, i was surprised to see that many oldies here suggest people to start atleat 10-15 new discussions and 40-45 responses to other's discussions a day to add more penny to their ppockets, which i don't understand.
i have plenty of very interesting topics but i will bring those one by one and not very randomly as many people do here.LOL
I may give not more than 10 responses a day, but than its true that your earnings increase by just some 10 cents which will take ages to accumulate to some ''10$''.
But than i am not here for just money, but to interact with people of different nationals all over the world and increase my knowledge and other's too.
so this too many dicussions drive me nuts.LOL

I will admit that I'm here for the money. But I also want to learn about countries and from different people. I read most of the post in a discussion before posting in it unless it has over 30 responses. Then that is too many to try to read.

You are right - some people just start discusions (mostly useless) and never come back to them! I had a guy in my friend list who was startgin like 20-30 discussions a day! All were like " Do you like cheese - give your opinion" and only the product was changing!
I delete him cause i normlaly respond to evey discussion on my friend but it was seanseless to respond to his stupid discussions!
Since you are my friend polachicago - you can see that in the past i've started few discussions and now - for a long time i decided not to start new ones since i dont have a good idea what useful topic i could start!

I was able to see that you did not start new discussion for long time.
I just check my favorite friends once a while. I turned notification off for all, because my email was full of mylot only.

Yea, I feel that I only want to start a few discussions so I can learn from them and responed to them.
Want them to be real conversations about what I'm interested in, wanting to know about.
Wanting real answers to them, not just scoring points.
The more real we are here, the more people will want to come and be involved in this site.
MyLot being world wide generates possibilty for more world peace through getting to know each other more too.
Writing our thoughts and feelings out, we get to know ourselfs better too.
happy to find others with same view point !
All the Best !!!******

I also feel the same way that makes me irritated on seeing lots and lots of new discussions are started every minute in that many useful and thoughtful discussions are getting buried in it. To avoid this thing, everyone can do a search on the site on what they are going to start as a topic and see whether if someone else has started similar or same discussion and just post your discussion there instead of starting a new topic, this will help to keep My Lot clean.

Yes, some people just start discussions which are very silly and it seems that they are just interested in counting the number of discussions they have started in a day thinking that they will be rewarded well for starting so many discussions but mylot won't be paying for silly discussions as per its new rules.....isn't it?

I am a little put off by all kinds of meaningless discussions started by many people. I can already see some people saying 'who are you to judge us'. Maybe I am nobody but I still feel no new discussion should come into general arena unless atleast 5 members with a quality rating of 7 or above have responded to it. It should also be mandatory for higher quality members to respond to atleast ten new discussion per month to retain their higher ranking.

I have started a few discussions and most of them haven't had a response. I will reply to everyone that does respond because I feel that is the right thing to do. I also try and be careful when I start a new discussion, I don't want to start something similar to someone else. So I have to go through heaps of pages to see if anyone else has done one like it and that can be very time consuming. This way though I am hopefully not stepping on anyones toes.
