Religion vs Free Will?

Why does the religions have to be an organized "rume maker" of peoples beliefs. doesnt it seems stupid the idea of having to follow some rules just beacause u believe in what your religions says? where is the free will in all this? idont get it... please share your ideas with me enlighten me towards the existing religions.(im not trying to ofend religions nor religious men and women, im just trying to learn what my religion failed to.. thats why i became agnostic)
