I think their very educative. Because if you'll observe, they teach children basic terms and ideas while their enjoying watching. And don't worry about your son. Mabe he's just a late bloomer. I was like that when I was young. I was 4, when I said the first word. My mom told me.

I find some of them are and some of them are not . When my older children were younger I was worried about them being to much around the t.v so I didn't really let them watch much . Over the years I was babysitting and noticed that all the children that were watching educational programs were more advanced in almost all area's . So when I had another child and as she got older I started letting her watch shows like Dora and Digego , Little Bear and stuff like that , (I will not allow her to watch Caiou or shows like that as they teach children to whine ) , anyway she became obsessed with Dora and still is and is unbelievably smart . She is only 3 and knows all her colors in english , spanish and is now learning them in french , she knows all her numbers to at least 20 knows all the alphabet and can recognize most of them on sight and can form about half of them , she can spell words like her name , mom and dad and she has even started adding and subtracting little numbers like 1+1 ,2+2 etc and the same for subtracting . I am amazed by the words she uses like patient and confused . I find them big words for her age . In my opinion I find there are quite a few out there that are very helpful but don't allow her to watch any programs that teach whinning or other bad deeds in the way they talk or act .

Dont get scared about your children yet. Some children take time little more than a normal child, but they pick up well at later years. About the T.V programmes, it is not advised to leave the children to watch T/V for more than one hour at a time and not more than three to four hours in a day. Once they are addicted to watch the T.V continuously for the days and night it is difficult to adopt to the life, when they have to go to shcool and look after the studies.

I think kids should watch age approprate programmes, Mr bean is no way educational, I would suggest looney toons or Noddy like progreammes for a three year old they teach about values of lif eto the kids and graphics are sharp and not fudgy so its not ahrd on their eyes too.
