Do You Think Life On Earth Will End in 2012?

The Mayan calendar predicts that the end of this cycle of the earth will be in 2012. This has to do with 'water'. Instead of just human-created emissions, do you think that our own normal earth cycles (ice ages, pole shifts, etc.) are also being affected by the cycle of the sun? The sun has just begun Cycle 24, with some already unusal solar events such as backward sunspots. Do you think that there will be more major earth changes in the next five years?

Hello, fellow duck! I was thinking about this too. I've read that the sun's cycles don't affect the earth's because the sun is too far away. I hope that is the case. I don't give much credence to the Mayan calendar, but I think we will see more extreme weather events in unusual places, like the current ones in Europe. The sea level is definitely rising, already engulfing a lot of beaches in my country (foolishly, they've been trying to add sand to the beaches, but the sea tides just take it all away each night).

Well Hi there other duck! :) Nice to meet you. You might want to check out the www.nasa.gov site, and look for their articles on sun cycles. I think that the sun affects us much more than we are led to believe, and that our magnetosphere is affected by the solar winds every day. Just recently, and you probably didn't hear this on the news) when the space shuttle was up at the space station repairing something they had to have all the astronauts go to the safe room(s) because of a solar flare. Interesting stuff, I think.

That's interesting, but couldn't it be just because they were not on Earth, but in space, away from the Earth's natural protections against solar winds? The earth typically protects itself, luckily for us! What I did read, was that with the geomagnetic shift that seems to be occurring, there is a chance that the magnetosphere might weaken and that the sun's activity may affect us. Some other clever folks say it may become weaker but if past shifts are any indication, life on Earth won't be erradicated (they just expect disruption in communications, GPS and so on). Goodbye myLot!

The earth is not going to end in 2012. Nothing to worry about. If it was a big deal we would hear about it a lot more.

Sorry folks, I didn't mean to imply that the earth was going to blow up or anything. What I was trying to do was spark some conversation about how the earth and sun cycles affect each other. Don't get me wrong, I am not a "chicken Little". :) I do think we all need to be more aware of what happens on our planet, and in the space around us. As for "not hearing about it"...um, I think there are many things that our scientists don't tell us. They, and our government, don't want to scare the "sheep". ;-)

I don't think that 2012 will be the end. But I think the earth will be affected by the sun's changes. And let's just see the effects of the sun in our life soon.

I didn't quite get to word my original question the way I wanted, but I think you knew what I meant. I don't think the earth is going to disintergrate or anything. It is just very interesting to study the Mayan prophesies and how they have corresponded with actual events in the past.

I do believe there will be an end, but I dont think it will be something we ever predict. Blimey how many times has the world supposed to end now!

i don't think so. no can predict the future. because we create our own future, so when we change something in the present.. future changes also. GOD knows what will happen but no human can do such thing... unless his a real phropet... whatever... we just need to pray and keep our faith strong! good luck to us!

Yes I think earth is going through major changes & magnetic axis of earth is also changing..may be for good..I dunno whether I should call it the end of life or Begining of life on 4th dimension..We have 5 more yrs to changes ourselves in terms of raising our vibrations..We can do that by shedding of our emotional baggage & start acting purely out love..This is a process and may be we are lucky enough to know that we still have time to rise above all odds...
