I think it very hard for them to understand even if you explain it well because they cannot see it.

I had a friend who went blind as a teenager. She once said that you can substute the other senses for sight. She often puts her face to the sun and when asked what she is doing, says feeling the colour yellow. Snow is brittle and white to her, blue feels like cool water being poured over her hand and the scent of fresh cut grass or weeds just smells green. She has said this to other blind people, and they too "see" most of the colours the same

The best way I think would be would be to get them to hold flowers. Tulips being yellow are firm, pink roses are soft ect. To me that would be a good way. It's the only thing I can think of.
