Am I addicted to coffee?

At what point does a person get "addicted"? I used to drink coffee on occasions...when we went out to eat or something...but I could never finish a cup. My husband would find half empty mugs of coffee or mocha setting around the house. Now I have a cup every day AND I finish it AND I usually have more! I can go without it for a day or two or even more but I do notice it. At one time I was getting headaches when I would go without for several days but didn't know if that was because of lack of coffee or something else. My husband has always been a serious coffee drinker and he would get bad headaches if he went without for too long.
So how do I know if I'm addicted? At what point? It's not like I go into convulsions when I haven't had any and I can easily choose to just not have any. I mostly just like the taste. I don't go by the coffee huts and get my fix...for one I don't have money to spend on that but I do go home and mix up my own mocha.
I'm just wondering how a person knows if they're addicted or not. I never thought I would be.

yeah, I used to have to have creamer and sugar but now as long as I have sugar it's fine. I can't drink black coffee...ICK!

I would say you are addicted to coffee . I am addicted to pepsi . I rarely finish a glass or bottle of it ever but if I don't have it I get really bad headaches . Unconsiously you make yourself a coffee becasue you like the taste of it . This is the addiction and the feeling that you can do without it . Yet you said yourself that you will go make a cup because you like the taste of it .
All in all it is not the worst addiction in life so I wouldn't worry about it too much .
I smoke and wish I could kick the habit of smoking as that one is hurting not only myself but all those around me .

I have a friend that is addicted to Pepsi...I mean it's a real addiction...she can hardly go hours without it. She know she needs to stop and she has actually cut down but I've seen her struggle with it for a long time. I am not even close to that with coffee or anything else.
My step-mom is trying to quit smoking...she's taking a medication and she noticed a difference right away...it sounds like its working. All the best to you!

I drink coffee every day because I like the taste of it. I usually drink the mochas at The Second Cup because I love the taste so much. I don't feel any ill effects if I go a day or two without coffee, therefore I'm not addicted. You are addicted if not having coffee affects you. You mentioned getting headaches. I am sure that is a symptom of addiction.

hmmm...well, i am trying to cut back. I'll get a headache but if i still don't drink any the headache goes away and that's that...of course I also like to drink a lot of water, especialy when I have a headache any other time.

I also love drinking coffee but I think too much of it can also be bad for your health.

Do you get headaches if you don't have it? Those are acutally withdrawal symptoms.
As far as addictions go, it's a pretty benign one. As long as your use doesn't go up over a couple cups a day, coffee is actually good for you. I wouldn't worry too much about it.

yeah, I know it's way better than having an addiction to something else. I've tried to research wether or not coffee is good or bad. I think in moderation it's fine and I'm trying to keep it that way.

yeah, i always used to get on my husbands case for drinking too much coffee because I didn't think it was healthy. I do usually only have one cup...if I have more than that it's usually throughout the day...not one right after the other.
