As always the case, are career driven professional look forward to getting promoted. But do you always grab the opportunity when there's one? What if you really feel like you are not quite cut out for the position just yet? What to say?

i will turn down the promotion if i know deep in myself that i am not capable to handle that position. i really wanted to be promoted in a way that is suitable for me. why would i accept the position if i know that i would not be fruitful with that job and my damage my record in the company.

that was what i initially thought as well. but i talked it out with my boss and she said that sometimes, there are things that others can see in a person which a person may not know. aside from that, a promotion does not necessarily mean that somebody gets promoted because that person has fully achieved a requirement for the position. rather, most promote people when they see a potential of a person and that potential can only be maximized when that person is placed in a position where he/she can be given a chance to decide and accept bigger responsibilities.

well i am in the same position right now and i think we have to really step up and even if we are not ready(we think) if the promotion is given to us, take cthe chance and then work hard to prove your worth. the opportunity might not open itself again.

Promotion is not offered. It is given, whether you like it or not. It's either you have to accept it or get out of the way. For accepting it would mean embracing the responsibility inherent to said promotion, not to mention the monetary consideration involved. Once you reject the promotion, it only means that you have also taken for granted the opinion of your superiors...and with that alone, you have already distanced yourself from the very people whom you are working with and for.
