How do you go about highlighting certain text for study etc. Do you overuse your highlighters? DO you have a method when highlighting terms and lines to study? Or do you just highlight the same old 'streak'. Do you do wavvy patterns or use different colours to differentiate between the different key ideas/passages?

I try to underline the topic sentence for each section. I do not like the overuse of highlighting. I have seen people highlight entire sections and I wonder what they are thinking because that isn't going to help them study. Plus it looks horrible for re-sale of your books. It is also distracting for other people to read your books when you have hightlighted every thing and not just the main points. I usually just go for the common yellow hightlighter and stick to that one color. It is rare that I will make any ink notes in a book, perhaps a pencil notation once in a while. I just can't seem to get over that lesson from growing up, we don't write in our books!

I abandoned pencils when i found out they werent as effective as highlighters. Im really choosy about the color of the ink as well. Pinks and oranges are definite no nos. Dull blues bearable. I like green the best. I start off with a streak and usually end up doodling.:)
