Can Your Dog Find His Way Home?

Yesterday, when I took my dog for a walk, we met a lady in the park who had lost her dog, a Jack Russell called Bertie. She was really worried because his tag had fallen off so nobody could call her if they found him. Everybody was looking for him, but no luck. I went to her house later to see if there was any news and happily the dog was there: he had found his way there, and waited for her on the doorstep. To get home he had to get back to the park gates, cross a busy road and walk through three side roads to reach the house. Have you heard of other dogs finding their way home like this? It is the nicest thing I've heard in a while!

My dogs have a ntendency to dig there way out of the backyard. We drive the neighborhood looking for them with no luck. A couples hours later they will be at the front door barking to get in. Yes, I am pretty sure they do.

I'm glad my dog doesn't dig! What breed(s) are yours? They must have good road sense.

I've had dogs before that would go wandering and they always found their way back home.Wallie(my Boxer)got out of the yard a couple of month ago and took of running down the road...I tried chasing him....but he thought it was just a game.By the time I got back to the house to get the Truck and just follow him that way....he was nowhere to be found.I drove around asking people if they had seen him.....but no luck.I finally gave up and went home thinking I would run a add in the paper and put up some flyers.About 1 hour later someone knocks on my door....I answer and guess what? This teenage girl is standing there with Wallie....aparently her friend lives on our street and she had seen Wallie at our house before. So when he showed up in her yard....half way across town....she reconized him right away and brought him back.I was so grateful to have my dog back...as a thanks I gave her $20(little price to pay)....which I nearly had to force her to accept.I learned my lesson....Wallie now has a dog tag with name and address....plus he's getting that little microchip implanted.....just in case he won't find his way back home that easy next time.

Wonderful moment! I lost my dog in the woods a few weeks after I got him, luckily my phone number was on his tag. He turned up in a curtain shop, and they tied him up some net curtain till I got there to collect him. People are kind when it counts, i find

It's pretty common for dogs to be able to find their way home. They have a good nose and can find their home pretty quickly!

It is not amazing because dog is one of the animals among snakes, elephant, etc who used to remember their daily happenings and dog is the road runner among the race. A dog can remember the path he passes once and can go through the road if he get lost anyday.

They could probably find their way home, but it would take a long time. We have siberian huskies and they are known for running away if given half a chance. They would come back if they felt like it. They have no road sense so I make sure they never have the chance to escape. I did hear about a dog that came home 7 years later. That was a long time. Pooch was much older, but he was happy to be home.
