What do you do about the "annoying guy" at work?

Every workplace has one annyoing person that you can't seem to get rid of. Either they stand there talking nonstop while you're trying to get work done, or they want to invite you on outings when your not interested, or whatever. Maybe they hear you're having a BBQ and just invite themselves over.
How do you handle this person? Are your rude, or do you find a polite way to tell him/her that they're not invited? Or, do you just let them continue to be annoying, at the cost of your own happiness?

first i tend to ignore him,if he still irritates me i say straight on his face to mind his own business.
