How to build a house, save $$$

Ok, I must admit, I didn't build it by myself, My husband, father and father-in-law helped! I was in charge of getting bids, materials and clean up. I used two websites weekly, www.ebay.com and www.craigslist.com. we bought a fireplace for 1/2 off on teh first and a sink for 2/3 off on the second. we built in city limits, wich is somenthing I would not recommend to anyone. It took 6 months just to get the proper permits in order. the other cost saving thing we did was to use and abuse friends and family. for our next project we want to go green, read very eco friendly. if anyone has tips on this please pass them on!
