I believe that dogs do dream, much like people do. I've seen my own dog grunt and whimper when she has been asleep many times and I can only conclude that my dog was dreaming. I've actually had to wake her up lots of times because she had been grunting or growling. Sometimes I've had to do it when she just starts to breathe heavy while she's sleeping.
I'm not sure if dogs can dream exactly like humans and have the same sort of experiences like waking up and remembering dreams, but I think they do dream. There'll be times where I'll be watching television or on the computer and my puppy will be sleeping soundly and then it will happen. She'll either start grunting, growling, whimpering or there's even been times where she's noticeably twitched or kicked something. Then I usually wake her up and she'll lay there looking around wondering what the heck just happened.
Sometimes I think she's being harmed by someone in her dreams. Usually this is because she will wake up just absolutely startled and look at someone, whether it be me or my other half. Sometimes she acts really defensive until she realizes that she's not dreaming any longer. It's funny sometimes but most of the time we'll just ask her if she's okay and then she'll wake up fully and start wagging her tail and getting all excited.
Id like to think the dreams they have aren't ones where people are harming her or scary things are happening to her, but it's hard to tell when she wakes up. Someone could be scaring her or playing with her and it gets her excited either way so much that it wakes her up. Regardless, I'm glad she just wakes up in the first place.
So, in conclusion, I think through my experiences with my own puppy that dogs do in fact dream. It's something that I don't think all living things do, but I'm pretty sure she does. Sometimes her reactions are a bit scary but I'm always there to make sure she wakes up okay.

Yes i think they definately do, my dog often makes noises... soft barks wimpering along with behaviours such as twitching and kicking every now and then after she has gotten herself all worked up i have even woken her up before because i felt bad for her when it looked to me like she was having a nightmare. I dont know what a dog would dream about or what their dreams would mean? but i believe they do.

Yes I do. Mine twitches, makes light growling noises and licks her lips. I think she just chased something caught it and ate it. They all have REM and thats a dream stage.

yes, dogs do dream.. My guys regularly run and whimper in their sleep. Also, I've experienced wet dreams with my male dog. Wonder what that was like?

I'm sure they do. Mine do everything from running to growling and barking in their sleep. I can't imagine anything else than they are dreaming when they do that.
