I would never say it if I didn't mean it. So I don't think I can put myself in your shoes. I can't understand why you would "have" to.
There are also different types of love. I love my best friend in a very different way than my spouse. I am in love with him, I love her as a friend. So perhaps just thinking of it in those terms would help?

This really doesn't sound like a good thing to do. I'd need to know a little more about the circumstances (who, for example and in what context), but you shouldn't say 'i love you' if you don't believe it. It's cruel, both to you and to the other person. I think you need to look at *why* you feel obliged to tell this person that you love them, and if this is a relationship you're in, you should discuss how you're feeling with your partner. Good luck, Lisa.

There should be no reason why you have to say it so please explain!
If you dont love them or even care about them then its easy enough to lie and just pretend you do to keep them off your back, but if there is a chance you will fall for them in the future make them wait till its so.
