Question for theists.

I'm so tired of religious people asking me, as an atheist, where I get my morals from. Is it so hard to believe that you can be a good person with out believing in God? Is it so hard to believe that most of humanities morals come from an unspoken social contract that states that I won't take your stuff/life if you won't take mine?
Here's a question for you folks who do believe in God: If God opened up the clouds today and said, "Killing is now no longer a sin" but it was still against the law, would you do it?

And that's fine cherylk44, that you have a God you believe in, I respect that. But certain people tend to judge me for having a lack of religious beliefs which I find a bit disrespectful. My point is that you don't need a God to know right from wrong. We as a people decided that we would remove anyone who violated certain codes of conduct from society by putting them in jail. It's in our nature to want to feel safe. That's why we have government and cops. If anarchy broke out tomorrow, people would group together and form their own societies until law could be restored. There's safety in numbers, and you don't need a God to tell you that.

Oh I so agree. And as a Christian, I can tell you, a lot of Christians are severely lacking in morals. And I've known far more Atheists and pagans who act unselfishly and work for the betterment of humanity. My parents are lifelong activists. They met in the peace corp. Most of the people they worked with were Athiest or at least Agnostic. Yet the non-believers are the ones without morals. Yeah, sure.

So true cyntrow. People are people, no matter what affiliation or belief they have, there will always be good people and jerks in every group. And I think it's awesome that your parents were in the peace corp. Thanks for your reply_:-)
