Should I Upgrade to Windows Vista? Whats the advantage/disadvantage

Hey, i have a windows media player gateway laptop. It is about 2 years old, and i must say it is getting a bit trashed. I am in dire need for some speed. i am debating to buy ram chips for it, but i was wondering about this vista. i hear that vista will be the new xp soon. everything will need vista to work! is this true!! i hope not i hear that it is expensive and it is coming out soon to stores near me.
