Do you have an emergency kit?

My husband and children laugh, but I have an emergency crate (not kit) in my car at all times.
I think it would be a foolish way to die, of starvation, or stuck in the snow, or something like that.
So, I carry-snow shovel, blanket, water, fix-a-flat, granola bars, and first aid kit, as well as a premade kit of jumperstarters, flashlight, and flares.
Am I neurotic as they say? Or do you carry one too?

I don't carry one but I think it is a good idea . I have seen getting stuck somewheres and wishing I had a blanket for the children and not having one . I say I am going to do something like that but never have as of yet . I did carry a blanket in the van for a couple of months but then took it in to wash it and never thought to take it back out .

I do have to check it often, as both my husband and children will take items from it, even if it is not an emergency-they are hungry or thirsty, or they have something else to put in the van and have to take it out. I guess I should probably lock it.-with my luck I will get stuck and be all out of what I need.

Prevention is better than cure.So i think having emergency kit is not a bad idea and you will realize its importance only when you are in desperate need of it.when the need of hour comes, even a safety pin could be important to us so having emergency kit does not sound idiotic or neurotic....

Let them laugh away, this is the smartest thing a person can do. You never know when something could happen and you would be stranded. I carry even beyond that everyone has socks, a shirt, and extra blankets. We live in an area that if you went off the road it could be days before someone noticed.

Yup, I have read more than one article about you people in Colorado. Don't know why you don't move your towns closer together-LOL. I can understand why it would be such a priority to you. You would think that in areas like your, you could not get your car insured or inspected unless you have an emergency kit with you. I hope you never need it-but thank god your family has someone looking out for them.

I don't think you're paranoid at all. I also bring those stuff along including a tool box, signal flairs, air horns and a walkie talkie. I've also installed a gps tracking system on all of my vehicles just in case I get snow bound in a desolate spot. Those tools has helped me throughout the years.

That is not neurotic, that is good planning. Out of all the things that can go wrong, being stranded in a storm is probably the most likely to happen.
You may also want to add flashlights and radios that can be powered with a few cranks, then you don't have to worry about the batteries.
For winter, those little chemical handwarmers are great, throw a box of those in your car.
