Is there any special things I need to know about fishing for Walleye? Moved near Maumee River in Ohio and going as soon as it warms up!

Walleye don't hit hard when they bite, you will feel just a little tug tug you must set the hook within the first and second tug. They hit just like a perch. I use a soft bait with a tail not to big and then tip it with a worm. The first time i went walleye fishing i got lots of hits but never set the hook waiting for the big hit. Very early morning and dusk is a good time for walleye. The next thing to know is how to find them, local knowledge will help you with this. Go to your local tackle shop and just ask. One more thing don't forget they have teeth and a part of the pike family. Have lots of fun and keep your line wet. :-)

Hi, I don't know anything about fishing for Walleye. I would suggest that when it does warm up you go down to the river and ask for advice. I do know they wear waders and go out in the water. Your question stood out to me because I live in Northern Ohio about 3 minutes from the river. Small world. Good luck catching some fish.

Try using a new invention called the BulletBobber to reach areas no one else can and to keep your jig on the fish without recasting. You can find them at www.bulletbobber.com I have done pretty well in areas away from the crowd using them. The fish are everywhere in the Maumee but you'll see everyone in the fast water trying to snag them in the mout so it looks legal.
