Is time altered to speed up when we are in the shower????

Shower...the time continuum! What is it about being in the shower that speeds up time? I swear that I can take a 5 minute shower, but that 5 minutes is suddenly changed into 20 minutes when I step out of the shower and see the clock. OK...let me think...I washed my hair and my other areas...no, I will not go into detail...then I stood there for a minute telling myself that I can not linger in the shower because I had to go pick up the kids from school. Yes, I admit it, I stood there under the nice hot water running down my hair and body with my hand on the knob to turn it off thinking, "I don't wanna!" But I am not a baby. I am not going to whine. I am a mom that has to get out of the shower! OK....FINE! I pushed the knob down and turned off the shower! I then have to quickly grab a towel because we all know how extremely cold it is standing there exposed to the harsh elements with the water off! This is actually very helpful to ecourage one to dress quickly. And I did just that! So quickly that of course, I actually had to struggle to get my legs through the pant legs because my legs were not completely dry! But it is not too much of a problem now because I lost 20 lbs and the pants are now baggy. :) Yea me! Back to the time continuum...I swear it felt like it was only 5 minutes in the shower and if I factor in that I probably stood there with my hand on the knob for what felt like an additional minute, that would mean I was only in the shower for a total of 6 minutes! But behold! I looked at the clock and I was in there for 20 minutes. What? Your kidding me! I barely have time to brush my hair before I have to be out the door to get the kids! How did this happen? How does time speed up when I am in the shower. I know it is possible to take a shower in 5 minutes or less because I was in the military. Trust me...we had that timed! 60 seconds to wash hair 60 seconds to rinse hair 60 seconds to wash body 60 seconds to wait for the other girl to get out of the water so you can rinse 60 seconds to rinse yourself Total time...5 minutes! And if you were lucky, that time could be reduced to 4 minutes! :) I know, I have done it! So now that I am no longer in the military, what happened to my timing? I think there is an alternate time continuum when I step into the shower. Because I swear...I was only in there for 5 minutes! LOL Do you have this problem? Does time seem to race by when you step into the shower?

there are many of these. What i like to call time dilation wormholes. The shower is one, the pub is another. Mylot has a similar problem, it was 11pm when i started on here 20 minutes ago, but now my clock says 1am. However as newton told us "every force has an opposite and equal reaction. Therefore there must be time dilation wormholes where time slows down. These are found on public transport, banks, post offices, baseball matches and when doing coursework (thats more of a personal one). I sat down to do a piece of coursework today, i wrote a bit, looked some stuff up in a book, searched on the internet, wrote a bit more. I then stopped and thought to myslef "thats a good bit of work i've earnt a break" i then walk downstairs to watch a bit of TV and my housemate says "i thought you were going to do work" "i did" i reply "i thought i earnt a break" "But you only went up there 5 minutes ago!"

Then I would think that the 10 hours of research you are worried about in your other posting should only take you 1 hour. ha ha :) But your right. There are the opposites to balance out the fast time. Lectures are a big one. You swear the hour must be almost up...but you look at the clock and it is only half way into the hour. And for some reason...the last 10 minutes go even slower!!!!

I have the same problem when I have a bath, because once I get into a hot, bubbly bath and lie back and close my eyes and relax, any aspect of time escapes me, that's why I make sure that I have a bath when I've not got to go anywhere. If I have a shower, the maximum time I'm in there is ten minutes, so in the mornings I will have my shower for quickness and I don't have to worry about the time when I'm in the bath and I can relax fully.

This was fanstatic! LOL. I have this problem every Sunday morning where time in the alternate time continuum doubles and my 2 1/2 minute shower turns into 20 minutes! There is something about Sunday mornings and getting ready for church that makes everything go faster then time outside the shower! It's the same with putting tights on girls on Sunday morning ... now that it's cold they need a little extra covering on their pudgy little legs and for whatever reason something that should be done in the matter of a few minutes tops seems to take days!! This was a great post! Thank you for going into detail where detail was needed and avoiding detail when detail wasn't needed! :)

Yes And then if you are enjoying it, within seconds there is a little person lurking at the bathroom door! Then a knock.... and then Before you know it its complete noise and kaos on the otherside of that door. "MOMMY!! MOMMY!! PLEEEEEASE, I need to talk to you", "Open the door" Or I like this one, "Wat ya doin?" So even if I do get a 20 minute shower its not very peacful! And God forbid if I take a bath eveyone wants to get with me! They think that is a pool party or something!! LOL

I have to admit, I have those days where everyone wants to climb in when I get into the bath too. But now that they are getting older, I lock the door or refuse to let them come in. ha ha My youngest though, if I don't lock the door, will just walk right in more matter my protest. ha ha And then he will beg and beg. So I have to make a deal that he can wait outside until I am done and then he can get in. Next thing you know, the other little ones want to climb in with him too. Now, it is a pool party in the garden bathtub.

No race for me. I go into the shower and relax. I have a hard time, after 30 minutes to get out. It just feels so good having hot steamy water on me.

I think time fly's when we are in the shower because we are just so relaxed. Its like when you go to sleep when your really tired, you close your eyes then the alarm go's off and its time to get up again and it feels like you just close your eys. I know its all kind of weird when you get thinking about it.

Ive read somewhere about what makes it feel time is fast or slower but i cant remember which is which now. Anyway, it's the same when you are busy doing things at home . You are occupied and stuff that you cant barely notice the time. You think you did. before you know it, you have been doing everything in maybe an hour or so even if you thought it was just 30mins. When your mind is somehow busy thinking of the next thing to do, it feels like you're stuck with that while the clock keeps on ticking. But if you have nothing to do or think about and you are mindful of what time it was, dont you notice that time seems to be slower than usual?

I always have my best brainstorming when I am in the shower. It seems like everything that I have been trying to figure out, like the name of a band i've been struggling to remember all day or what I am going to do for my next assignment in a class comes to me...so I take really really long showers.

Mine is just the opposite. I get in the shower and feels like I have been in there forever, but when I get out its only been a short amount of time. It always amazes me when I get out cause I swear that at least a half hour or twenty minutes went by.

From another discussions .. it's 'Sod's Law' (or Murphy's Law) .. time flies when you are enjoying yourself .. when I get up in the morning I have to take my meds before I can do something as active as showering .. but to take my meds I also need to eat .. so I have to make some breakfast first .. so now I have eaten my toast, drunk my coffee .. and swallowed my meds .. Give the meds a good 30 minutes to have started working .. now i can gather up all the things I need for the shower .. need a rest before I get into the shower .. another 15 minutes goes by .. now I can get into the shower .. I reckon on a 'good' day it's usually takes me 90 minutes to get into the shower from when I get out of bed .. on a bad day it can be as long as 2-3 hours or more ....

Heck yes, time stops. It never feels like I take all that long, but my 10 minute shower ends up being about 45 minutes sometimes! It's not right! I don't know how to cut down the time in there, because I really am hurrying. Alas, it's like the socks in the drier phenomenon. They simply disappear ... and I think they show up in someone elses laundry somewhere else!

I posted about the sock thing a while ago too. ha ha But, if the sock appears in someone else's laundry...would that mean that I might appear in someone else's shower? LOL Umm, sorry, but can I have a towel now? LOL

That is just too funny. I can totally identify. I know it takes me 10 minutes to get in get out and get dressed. But it never fails if I am limited in time, it takes at least 20 minutes. I have no idea how it happens but it does. Maybe it's some kind of "bermuda shower triangle" lol. Could alien abductions be to blame for the loss of my 10 or more extra minutes? These are questions I ask myself. I cannot figure out what the heck happens. Perhaps there are time elves sneaking around that we don't know about. All I know is my showers sometimes make me think I am in the "Twilight Zone"

The Bermuda Shower Triangle! That's geat! Where if your soap, shampoo, and conditioner is set in just the right place, time speeds up! LOL Personally, I think there are little bad fairies that like to turn all the clocks fast when I am in the shower just to upset me. And when I am not looking, they change them back! That is when the day is going by so slow! LOL

I thought must be realized there are several time continuums. there is the one you mentioned, the shower. This makes time accelerate, another one along the same lines is the sleeping continuum, time goes fast while you are sleeping - but your body can not sleep that fast, that is why you are still tired in the morning. Conversely, when you can't sleep, the time continuum slows down. Now the most noticeable difference in the time continuum is the kid-adult one. Did you notice how our kids age faster then we do. I am sure you must have noticed it, that is why we will still be 39 when our kids are 35. COngrats on losing 20 pounds and what branch were you in , I was in the army

You know, you are so right about there being different time continuum's!! I have a problem sleeping and wow..time really do slow down when I keep looking up to see what time it is and only 2 minutes have past! And yes, my kids are growing up way too fast also! Its scary! And just think, I have seven of them so time is just zooming around me! Thanks on the congrats! I am pretty proud. :) I was in the Air Force. So, sharing a shower head I am sure you know is not uncommon. LOL

That happens to me EVERYDAY? The funny part is I'll be in there thinking "gosh, I took a fast one this time!" and all of the sudden the hot water is gone hahaha.

I agree with you here as I usually try to keep my showers to five minutes but it ends up being longer than that. I end up taking a 10 to 15 minute shower. I guess because it feels so nice feeling that warm warm hit me that I stay in there longer than I had planned. I will have to put a timer in there to keep me from enjoying it too much and having a high water bill. LOL

Having seven kids, I am sure you can imagine how high our water bill can get! We are considering buying a timer and setting it in the bathroom for the kids too! LOL We just have to get around to it...along with the other things we have to get around it. ha ha

I have had this happen to me on several occasions as well!! I thought I was just losing minutes in my own little world. I'm glad to see that someone else is affected by this rift in time also.:) What part of the military did you serve?

Well, I take baths, so it's hard for me to say. *laugh* I've definitely lost time in the bathtub, though! And it sounds to me like you must really enjoy your showers, since the time flies so easily when you are in there! *laugh* I can understand that. It really is a nice time to pamper yourself and relax. LOL about your alternative time continuum theory! I love it ^_^

definitely because you can get in the shower at nine and when you get out it could be like ten but you never notice an hour just passed because it only feels like a half hour

Time does go by wayyyy to fast in the shower. I like to think in the shower while I'm doing my business, and i have tried to base my time by like humming a song from start to end or something and its been like 10 minutes and I can't figure it out. Even if I try to shorten my time in the shower, because it goes by so fast that it seems short, it doesn't work because i feel like I didn't get everything done. Maybe you just zone out while your in the shower, making it go faster, like when your sleeping!
