Loud upstairs apartment neighbors?

Last month, new neighbors moved in upstairs (no top-floor apartments were available when we moved in). Ever since, on a daily basis from 2:30/3:00PM until about midnight, their kid(s) are, by all aural evidence, running Kentucky Derby trials. The stomping and running and jumping is almost unbearable - I'm a writer, and it's terribly disturbing to me. Even our cat is nervous now because of it....he hides under the bed all day now, whereas he's normally a pretty cuddly little guy. *sigh*
Hubby is going to talk to them tonight. If they don't quiet down, I suppose we'll go to managment. Anyone else have this experience? Any advice?
Can't wait until we move to our own *home*. :)

I've never had upstairs neighbors, only next door neighbors, but they can be bad enough sometimes. Sometimes talking to them can help, and sometimes it takes talking to the management. In either case, I wish you luck.

Good luck! We recently moved froma 3rd floor to a 2nd floor apartment. Even though the apartment is owned by the same management company they were built at least 5 years apart. The walls are much thinner here. We have a single guy who lives upstairs and he makes more noise then any of our neighbors who have kids! Our management perfers to not get into noise situations so they prefer we call the cops if something is up at night. I have call the cops on him twice for loud music at 1am. I have also reported him to managemenbt because he likes to run his washing machine at 2:30am. I have learned that talking to your neighbors doesn't always work, but the threat from management does - especially in our complex because you get 3 warnings and then you can get kicked out.

I have neighbors across the street who usually turn the radio too loud on a Sunday morning. It's really irritating because it's my time to rest. But maybe I'm not a person fond of confrontations so I just wake up and do some work then sleep later in the afternoon.
