I am thinking about going to Iceland and was wondering if anyone has been there. What was your experience like and would you recommend someone to visit Iceland. Also, what language do they speak?

I have been to Iceland and would love to go back. The official language there is Icelandic, but I was surprised to find out that a lot of people speak english as well. In fact, I was really amazed by the number of people who spoke english. My experience was awesome and I would reccomend going there in the summer. The days are practically endless in the summer and the weather more mild. We spent time in spas, hiking, and just taking in all the natural wonders they have. Iceland is quite prcey once you get there, but it really is worth it. Go if you have the chance.

I've been there 4 times, had a great holiday each time so I'd definitly reckommend it. They talk Icelandic there but nearly everyone speaks English, so getting around is no problem. I'd reckommend renting a car if you want to go outside Reykjavik, or go on a trip. There's busses, but not a lot, and if you want to see the weird volcanic stuff inside the country there's not a lot of busses going there.

Iceland is an amazing place. I have been once, but hope to go back at least one more time in my lifetime. They speak Icelandic, and what's really interesting, is that unlike other countries, even the US, there are no other dialects. All Icelanders speak the same Icelandic language, the same accent and everything. That said, a lot of people speak English, and we found it a pretty comfortable place for tourists. It's a facinating and beautiful place. There is a ton of geothermal activity and there is a famous Spa called "The Blue Lagoon" which is worth a visit. There are also many waterfalls and glaciers. Unlike it's name would suggest, Iceland is very green and lush too (Iceland is green, Greenland is ice). While you are there I suggest you take some time to learn more about the scandinavian lore too. There are lots of great myths and stories. Oh, and the food is great too, especially if you love seafood. There is also this stuff called skyr (It's like yougurt, but so much better), which is one of the best things I have ever eaten!

I'd definitely recommend anyone to visit Iceland. It is a very exceptional place. They speak Icelandic but also very good English so you'll have no trouble. Their language is very interesting, they do not use foreign words at all but try to preserve their language at best eg. telephone in icelandic does not exist so they use the word sími to replace it or e-mail is tölvpost. Icelandic people, I found, were very helpful if you are lost and such. They may sometimes seem a little closed off but in general they are very open and I also got the impression that they do enjoy seeing tourists, unlike some other countries. One thing to consider when visiting Iceland is the time of the year. There are different things to be seen in winter and summer. I have been there in winter so I can tell you that, the average temperature wouldn't probably go below -10 unless if you go further north than Reykjavík. The country will be grey and sometimes there will be snowstorms. However, it will be rewarding because if you are lucky, you will see the Northern Lights (best time to go then is around November-December) and it will be great to go and bathe in the Blue Lagoon. They even have ski and snowboard facilities. In summer, it will be completely different, with the midnight sun, horse riding excursions, whale watching etc... It is up to you to choose what you want to see and do because winter and summer time in Iceland are complete opposites. I absolutely loved it and am planning to go and study there, so I'd really recommend you to go there.
